Redhawks Drop Doubleheader to #6 Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Southeast Missouri (20-15) dropped a doubleheader to Southeastern Conference member #6 Arkansas (30-7) by scores of 9-1 and 14-0 Tuesday at Bogle Park.

A three-run home run by five-hole hitter Hannah Gammill helped key Arkansas' game one victory. Gammill homered with two outs in the bottom of the first inning to get the Razorbacks a quick 3-0 advantage.

SEMO loaded the bases and got on the board in the top of the third inning when reigning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week Paige Halliwill hit a two-out double to score Chelsy Pena making it a two-run game.

Arkansas answered with three more runs in the fourth and another three in the fifth. The Razorbacks used a pair of RBI-singles and a sacrifice fly to get their runs in the fourth inning before Linnie Malkin and KB Sides each hit a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Chenise Delce (8-2) gave up just one run on five hits, struck out eight and waked one in five innings to get the win.

Marisa Davis (4-4) took the loss for SEMO.

Halliwill, Aubrie Shore, Tori Bradley, Pena and Kynzie Wrigley combined for the Redhawks five hits.

In the nightcap, the Razorbacks put the game out of reach quickly when they hit four home runs in the first two innings. Arkansas scored six runs in the first frame and followed that up with eight in the second for its big lead.

Kaylee Anderson had two of SEMO's four hits in game two.

Rachel Rook (11-7) allowed six runs on six hits, walked two and struck out four in three innings.

Callie Turner (2-2) was credited with the win, scattering three hits and walking three in three scoreless innings. Lauren Howell combined on the shutout after pitching the final two scoreless frames.

SEMO heads to Austin Peay for a three-game OVC series on Apr. 15-16.
