Redhawks Down Montreat College, 5-2, Monday Afternoon to Continue North Carolina Trip

MONTREAT, N.C. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (7-4) beat Montreat College (3-5), 5-2, Monday afternoon to continue SEMO's Spring Break trip through the Tar Heel State.
 
Ksenia Shikanova, Daniela Hlacikova and Teona Velkoska each registered singles and doubles wins at the dual with Montreat College of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics).
 
SEMO grabbed the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead Monday.
 
Valerie Quiceno Ibarguen and Sofia Hernandez Mera beat Vivian Lai and Grace Powderly, 6-3, to commence the dual at No. 3 doubles. 
 
SEMO then secured the doubles points with consecutive wins at the first and second positions. 
 
Romana Tarajova and Shikanova beat Stephanie Petit and Carol Reis, 6-3, before Hlacikova and Velkoska fought past Nicole Bueno and Sofia Rojas Osorio, 7-5.
 
For Tarajova and Shikanova, the win was their third straight as a doubles pairing. 
 
When the competition switched to singles, SEMO won every match except the first and sixth lineup spots. 
 
Hlacikova increased the Redhawks advantage to 2-0 after she defeated Vaishnavi Venkatesh, 6-0, 6-4, at second singles. 
 
Lai then overcame Nicole Bueno, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, at No. 4 to make the SEMO lead 3-0. 
 
Mariam Bayatyan beat Powderly, 6-0, 6-0, at the sixth slot before Shikanova edged Valerie Quiceno Ibarguen, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, at the third position. 
 
For Shikanova, the win was her seventh-straight and improved her singles mark to 8-3 in 2022. 
 
Petit then clawed past Tarajova with a pair of tiebreakers at the top slot, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2).
 
Velkoska wrapped up the dual with a win at the fifth flight. The senior from Prilep, Macedonia, rebounded after dropping the first set to beat Reis, 0-6, 7-6, 6-4, for her fifth-straight singles win in 2022. 
 
SEMO next concludes its three-match road trip to the Tar Heel State at Gardner-Webb of the Big South Thursday. Doubles opens the dual at 1 p.m., CT at the Webb Tennis Complex in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
