CLARKSVILLE, TENN. – The Southeast Missouri Women's tennis team competed in the Austin Peay Fall Tournament Saturday at the Governors Tennis Courts to open its fall 2021 season.
Romana Tarajova defeated Jule Streif of UT Martin, 6-2, 6-4, and
Daniela Hlacikova (1-6, 6-3, 10-7) beat Anastasiya Zholdakova of Belmont in the top flight.
Vivian Lai edged Austin Peay's Aleks Topalovic, 1-6, 7-5, 10-6, in the second singles draw.
Teona Velkoska (6-1, 6-1) defeated Ariadna Ondo of UT Martin and
Myroslava Zelenchuk (6-2, 6-2) beat Mizuki Sakurai of UT Martin in the third singles bracket.
For Zelenchuk, a freshman from Lviv, Ukraine, the match was her Redhawks debut.
Rounding out the tournament for SEMO was
Lera Valeeva (6-0, 6-3) who defeated Jilli Niedzialowski of UT Martin in the fourth singles round robin competition.
Ksenia Shikanova (2-6, 4-6, Abi Solomon, Flight #2) and
Manuela Barriga (5-7, 3-6, Taylor Trondson, Flight #4) also both competed on Saturday, losing their matches to Belmont.
The tournament was played over only one day due to inclement weather in the area on Friday and Saturday.
SEMO will return to action at the Central Arkansas Fall Tournament in Conway, Arkansas, Oct. 1-2.
