Redhawks Head to the Hoosier State to Face Evansville and Indiana this Week
Southeast Missouri women's soccer (2-2-0) will continue its 2021 non-conference slate with a pair of games this week in the Hoosier State. SEMO will face Evansville (3-0-1) Thursday evening at the Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville, Indiana. First kick is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT. The Redhawks will then travel to Bloomington, Indiana, to take on Indiana (2-1-1) of the Big 10 Conference Sunday. Initial kick is scheduled for 7 p.m., CT.

SEMO leads the all-time series with Evansville, 6-4-4. The Redhawks won the most recent meeting, 2-1, on September 6, 2019 in Evansville, Indiana.

Indiana leads the all-time series with SEMO, 1-0-0. The two teams last played on September 15, 2002, in Cape Girardeau, with the Hoosiers winning, 2-0.
Scouting the Opponents
Purple Aces
Evansville is 3-0-1 in the early 2021 season, with three straight victories over Belmont (3-0, Aug. 22), at Morehead State (1-0, Aug. 26) and at Middle Tennessee (Aug. 29, 3-2, OT). Emilie Hill, Monique Landrum and Emily Ormson have each netted a pair of goals and Nicole Benati paces the team with two assists. Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Michaela Till was named Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Hill, a junior defender, was named to the MVC Preseason First-Team. The Purple Aces posted a 2-3-3 record in 2020-21 including 2-3-2 in the Valley.
Hoosiers
Indiana is 2-1-1 during the 2021 campaign with wins over Valparaiso (Aug. 19, 1-0) and UT Martin (Aug. 26, 1-0) and a draw at Notre Dame (Aug. 22, 0-0). The Hoosiers recently fell at Memphis, 1-0, on Aug. 29. Avery Lockwood and Jordyn Levy each had notched a goal while Camille Hamm and Hanna Nemeth have registered one assist each.
Nemeth, Avery Lockwood and freshman goalkeeper Jamie Gerstenberg were named to the Big Ten Women's Soccer Players to Watch List as the Hoosiers were picked to finish sixth in the conference. IU went 6-5-1 in 2020-21 with a 6-4-1 conference mark.
Indiana will face Western Michigan Thursday at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
OVC Players of the Week
Sophomore defender
Emma Brune and senior goalkeeper
Bailey Redden were named Ohio Valley Conference Players of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Brune was tabbed Defender of the Week while Redden earned Goalkeeper of the Week. The duo helped SEMO split a pair of games against Missouri-St. Louis and Mississippi State, allowing just one goal.
Brune competed in all 180 minutes this past week against UMSL and Mississippi State, anchoring the SEMO backline. She registered a shot against Missouri-St. Louis on Aug. 26. For Brune, the weekly honor is the second in her career.
Redden started and played in all 180 minutes of action this past week. The Belleville, Illinois native, made nine saves and allowed just one goal over the two games. She posted a save in SEMO's 1-0 victory over Missouri-St. Louis on Aug. 26 for her first shutout of the 2021 campaign. She closed the week with a season-best eight saves at Mississippi State of the Southeastern Conference on Aug. 29. Redden held the Bulldogs scoreless through the opening 45 minutes before conceding a goal in the second half of the road test. For Redden it is her fourth career OVC Goalkeeper of the Week laurel.
Redden Moving Up the SEMO Rankings for Shutouts
Bailey Redden notched her first shutout of the 2021 campaign against Missouri-St. Louis on Aug. 26. Redden now has 15 shutouts in her career and sits tied for fourth in the SEMO record books. She also ranks third for saves (244) and fifth for wins (23) and minutes played (4,225).
Redden plays for the Fire & Ice soccer team during the summers and was recently named the Women's Premier Soccer League Central Region Midwestern Conference Goalkeeper of the Year.
Mississippi State Recap
SEMO fell to Mississippi State (2-2) of the Southeastern Conference, 1-0, on Aug. 29 at the MSU Soccer Field. SEMO's defense held strong through the first half keeping the Bulldogs off the board in the opening 45 minutes. Goalkeeper

Iron Lady
Emma Brune has played in all 360 minutes over four games this season. Brune, a sophomore from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, extended her streak of playing every minute of regulation to 16-straight games dating back to this past spring's 2020-21 season.

Welker Doing Welker Things
Lauren Welker registered a pair of assists in Aug. 22's victory over Maryville. Welker finished with three shots (two on goal) to complement her two assists. She ranks first in the OVC for total assists (2) and assists per game (0.50).
Welker has played in all 90 minutes of regulation in all three of the past Redhawks games (Maryville, UMSL, Mississippi State).
What a Debut for Couturier
Sophomore
Anne-Clara Couturier, a Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada native, netted a pair including the game-winner in her Redhawks debut Aug. 22 against Maryville. Couturier, a sophomore transfer from Southeastern (NAIA in Florida), finished with a pair of goals on two shots on net in 45 minutes of action as a second-half substitution.

2021 OVC Preseason Poll
SEMO was selected to finish the 2021 season third in the Ohio Valley Conference. Senior midfielder
Lauren Welker was tabbed to the 2021 OVC Players to Watch List.
The Redhawks received two first-place votes and 99 points in the projected order of finish for third. SIUE, the 2020-21 OVC Tournament Champions, was picked first with 12 first-place votes and 121 points. Murray State, the 2020-21 OVC Regular Season Champions, was pegged second with four first-place votes and 116 points.
Welker, a senior from Jackson, Missouri, was named to her first career OVC preseason team.
SEMO Schedule
The Redhawks will play 19 games including a trio of exhibitions during the 2021 campaign, its 23rd season under head coach
Heather Nelson. The slate features nine non-conference contests and eight home games (one exhibition).The 2021 schedule also includes eight OVC games beginning with Belmont on Sept. 26 at Houck Field.
2020-21 Season Recap
SEMO fashioned a 7-4-1 overall mark in 2020-21 including a 6-3-1 record during conference play, which tied for third in the OVC. The Redhawks qualified for their fourth-straight OVC Championship Tournament and 19th all-time appearance this past spring.
SEMO finished as the 2020-21 OVC Championship Tournament runners-up, downing top-seeded Murray State, 1-0, in the Semifinals as the fourth seed before falling to SIUE, the 2020-21 Champions, 2-1, in overtime of the Championship Finals.

Welker led the Redhawks offensively in 2020-21 with six goals and four assists for 16 points. The Jackson, Missouri, midfielder, also registered a team-best 18 shots including 12 on goal and tallied a pair of game-winning goals. Welker was named to the 2020-21 All-OVC First Team and selected to the 2020-21 All-OVC Tournament team.
Redden returns in net and started and played in all 1,103 minutes of regulation over 12 games in 2020-21, tallying a record of 7-4-1. She posted five or more saves in nine games and notched a career best six shutouts (first in the OVC) in 2020-21. Redden finished the campaign with a league-best 68 saves.
Sophomore midfielder
Emma Brune played in all 1,103 minutes during 2020-21, registering two goals for four points on 14 shots in her freshman campaign. The Cape Girardeau native, was selected to the All-OVC Second Team, All-Newcomer Team and All-OVC Tournament Team in 2020-21.
Junior defender
Natalie Jackson dished out a pair of assists while also never leaving the pitch in 2020-21, competing in all 1,103 minutes.

Morgan McCourt also returns after earning 2020-21 All-OVC Tournament team honors. She was second on the Redhawks with four points (1g-2a) and 14 shots (11 on goal).
