Redhawks Head to Martin, Tennessee, Tuesday to Face UT Martin in Regular-Season Finale
Southeast Missouri women's soccer (6-2-1, 6-2-1 OVC) will take on UT Martin (5-3-1, 5-3-1 OVC) Tuesday to conclude the 2020-21 regular season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., CT at the Skyhawk Soccer Field in Martin, Tennessee. 
 
SEMO is currently third in the Ohio Valley Conference standings with 19 points followed by UTM in fourth (16 points). Murray State (8-1-0, 8-1-0 OVC, 24 points) clinched the 2020-21 OVC regular-season title last Friday and SIUE (6-1-2, 6-1-2 OVC, 20 points) is second in the league. The top four teams in the OVC will duke it out for the 2020-21 OVC Championship April 16-18.

Series History
SEMO leads the all-time series with UT Martin, 11-8-6. The Redhawks and the Skyhawks played to a 2-2 draw in double overtime in their last meeting on Oct. 20, 2019 at the Skyhawk Soccer Field in Martin, Tennessee. 
 
Esmie Gonzales provided the equalizer in the 67th minute of regulation to force overtime. Hailey Block netted a penalty kick to tie the game in the 25th minute. 
 
UTM has won or tied the last three matchups with SEMO. The Redhawks last beat UT Martin on Oct. 27 2016 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. SEMO last won in Martin, Tennessee, on Oct. 14, 2011. 
 
Scouting the Skyhawks
UT Martin is fourth in the OVC with a record of 5-3-1. The Skyhawks are currently on a three-game win streak after beating Eastern Kentucky on April 2 and Austin Peay on March 30 last week. UT Martin shutout the Governors, 2-0, on March 30, before downing EKU, 5-1, on April 2. 
 
Emely van der Vliet registered a hat trick against the Colonels in the most recent UTM game. Jill Hildreth also had a pair of goals in the victory. The duo also posted goals in the Skyhawks wins over Austin Peay. van der Vliet was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week Monday.
 
van der Vliet paces UTM in 2020-21 with six goal and 13 points. Hildreth has notched three goals this season. Goalkeeper Erica Meyers is 5-3-1 with four shutouts and an .825 save percentage. 
 
About Last Week Recap
SEMO split its two games this past week. The Redhawks edged Morehead State, 1-0, on March 29 in Morehead, Kentucky, courtesy of a goal from Abby Tremain
 
Tremain registered her first career goal as a Redhawk in the 79th minute of regulation off a feed from Lauren Welker.
 
Emma Brune led SEMO with five shots including four on goal. Goalkeeper Bailey Redden made eight saves for the victory.
 
SEMO then fell to Murray State, the 2020-21 OVC Regular Season Champions, 3-1, on April 2 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Welker registered her fifth goal of the 2020-21 campaign in the loss to the Racers.
 
Welker pounced on her own rebound from a missed penalty kick to provide the Redhawks a 1-0 advantage in the 11th minute of regulation. 
 
Redden made eight saves in net for SEMO and leads the OVC with five shutouts. She is third in the conference for minutes played as a goalie (830:00), save percentage (.830), and total saves (44). Redden is averaging 4.89 saves per game (fifth in the OVC) and .976 goals against (fourth in the OVC).
 
Welker paced the Redhawks with three shots including two on target. Morgan McCourt added a pair of shots with one on net.

Abby Tremain registered her first career goal as a Redhawk in the 79th minute of regulation March 29 at Morehead State. The junior from Bridgeton, Missouri, competed in 46 minutes against the Eagles, while registering the game-winner.
 
I'm Welking (Welker) on Sunshine
Lauren Welker leads the Redhawks in 2020-21 with 12 points, good for fifth in the OVC. In nine games this season, Welker has compiled five goals and two assists. She ranks fifth in the league with 1.33 points per game and third for goals. 
 
Welker posted her fifth goal of the season on April 2 against Murray State. She also added her second assist of the year on Abby Tremain's goal at Morehead State on March 29.
 
Welker notched her first three career goals as a Redhawk in the first three SEMO victories and games in the 2020-21 season.
  
Welker, a junior midfielder from Jackson, Missouri, has played in 714 minutes this season, and leads the team with 12 points and 15 shots (10 on goal). She has notched a team-high two game-winning goals, which is fourth in the conference. Welker averages 0.56 goals per game for third in the OVC.
 
Compernolle the Facilitator
Hannah Compernolle leads the Redhawks in 2020-21 with three assists. She most recently registered a helper on Kayla Byrd's first career goal on March 23 against SIUE.
 
Compernolle has also posted 10 shots this season including seven on goal.

Midfielder Emma Brune and defenders Lexie Hacker and Natalie Jackson have all played in the full 830 minutes over SEMO's nine contests this season. 
 
Jackson is second on the team this season with a pair of assists including most recently March 23 on Faith Liljegren's tally against SIUE.
 
Emily Holten played in all 90 minutes of March 16's game at EIU, posting an assist with Jackson on Emma Brune's goal.
 
Hacker tallied an assist in SEMO's home opener on March 5.
 
SEMO Debuts
Taylor Nelson, a sophomore transfer from Lindenwood, made her Redhawks debut on March 12 against Austin Peay. She finished with a shot on goal in 16 minutes on the pitch.
 
Gabby Gscheidmeier, a redshirt freshman from Germantown, Wisconsin, made her SEMO debut at Belmont on March 9.
 
Maddie Paulson and Faith Liljegren also both made their Redhawk debuts in the win over Jacksonville State on March 5.
 
Freshmen Nadiia Ivanchenko (twice, March 5 & 9) and Kiana Khedoo (three times, March 9, 19 & 23) have also appeared in the SEMO starting lineup. Ivanchencko has played in eight games and Khedoo has competed in all nine. 
 
OVC Preseason Poll
SEMO, the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Regular-Season Champions, were picked to finish the 2020-21 season second in the OVC. Forward Megan Heisserer was named to the 2020-21 OVC Players Watch List.
 
The Redhawks received seven first-place votes and 172 points in the projected order of finish for second behind Murray State (181 points, five first-place votes).
 
Heisserer, a sophomore from Scott City, Missouri, was named to her first career OVC preseason team. The Notre Dame High School alum played in all 17 games during her inaugural collegiate season, starting in eight. Heisserer tallied four goals and two assists for 10 points last season including a pair of game-winning goals. She was third on the team with 30 shots.
 
2019 OVC Regular-Season Champs Recap
The 2019 Redhawks fashioned an 11-5-1 mark, tallying a record of 8-1-1 in conference play to win their sixth OVC regular-season crown in program history and first outright title since 2011.
 
SEMO was undefeated at home with a 7-0 record at Houck Field in 2019 and entered the 2019 OVC Tournament with a mark of 6-0-1. Head Coach Heather Nelson was awarded her fifth OVC Coach of the Year honor in 2019.
 
Roster Breakdown
The 2020-21 roster features 22 student-athletes including 15 players from the 2019 OVC Regular-Season Championship team. Emily Holten, Lexi Grote, Hannah Compernolle, Lexie Hacker and Kayla Byrd return for their senior seasons.
 
Junior Bailey Redden returns in net and started 16 games in 2019. Redden made 90 saves and posted four shutouts, compiling a 9-0-1 mark.
 
Megan Heisserer was the fourth leading scorer in 2019 with four goals. Kennedy Jones chipped in a pair last season. Grote and Morgan McCourt each had one.
 
Freshmen Emma Brune, Nadiia Ivanchenko, Kiana Khedoo, Maddie Paulson, Laura Galindo Mejia, Faith Liljegren and sophomore transfer Taylor Nelson are the newcomers on the squad. Nelson is the daughter of head coach Heather Nelson and associate head coach Paul Nelson.
 
Looking Ahead
After Tuesday's regular-season finale, SEMO will compete at the 2020-21 OVC Championship April 16-18 at the top seeded institution.
