Redhawks Dominate Jacksonville State Saturday to Improve to 5-0 in OVC Play

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (12-4, 5-0 OVC) swept Jacksonville State (8-9, 3-3 OVC), 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Redhawks Tennis Complex to improve to 5-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
 
With the win, the OVC-leading Redhawks tallied their eighth straight victory and claimed at minimum a share of the 2021 OVC Regular-Season Title with two conference regular-season road duals remaining in 2021.
 
SEMO captured the doubles point for the eight straight-match to open their dual before rallying off six straight singles victories.
 
Romana Tarajova and Kseniya Zonova eased past Carolina Bulatovic and Malin Buechner, 6-1, at the top slot. The duo improved to 8-2 in 2021 and are currently on a six-match win streak.
 
Daniela Hlacikova and Teona Velkoska then beat Martina Zarza and Dariana Prato, 6-4, at no. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point.
 
When the competition switched to singles, SEMO earned victories in the fourth, fifth, first, sixth, third and second lineup spots.
 
Ksenia Shikanova beat Prato 6-2, 6-3, at the fourth singles slot.
 
Vivian Lai then earned her eighth straight win, defeating Alessia Locati, 6-2, 6-3, at no. 5.
 
Tarajova then downed Bulatovic in two sets, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5, after an opening set tiebreak at the top lineup spot.
 
Lera Valeeva fought past Balsen Kaya, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, at the sixth singles slot.
 
Zonova beat Buechner, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, at the third position before Hlacikova overcame Harriet Hamilton, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, at no. 2 to secure the sweep.
 
Hlacikova is now 13-1 in her inaugural collegiate season after her seventh-straight win.
 
The Redhawks recognized seniors Maja Lundell and Kseniya Zonova for their careers at SEMO prior to the final regular-season home dual.
 
SEMO will wrap up its 2021 regular season with a trip to the Land of Lincoln. The Redhawks will take on SIUE on April 16 in Edwardsville, Illinois, before facing Eastern Illinois on April 17 in the regular-season finale in Charleston, Illinois.
