Redhawks Make Short Trip to Martin, Tennessee, to Face UTM Sunday and Monday
Southeast Missouri women's volleyball (6-2, 6-2 OVC) heads to Martin, Tennessee, for a pair of matches against UT Martin (5-3, 5-3, OVC) Sunday and Monday at the Skyhawk Fieldhouse. The contests are set for 6 p.m. on Sunday and 3 p.m. on Monday.

Scouting the Skyhawks
The Skyhawks split four matches last week, defeating Belmont twice at home on Feb. 24 before falling in road contests at Murray State on Feb. 28-March 1. Karen Scanlon led the way for UT Martin last week as the junior out of Scottsdale, Arizona, topped the team in kills (49, 3.06 per set), digs (59, 3.69 per set), blocks (14, 0.88 per set) and service aces (five). Kenzie Hinshaw (three double-doubles, 9.69 assists per set) and Zoe Merriweather (team-best 1.62 blocks per set average) also paced the Skyhawks.
          
For the season, Hinshaw's 10.09 assists per set rank fifth in the OVC while Wallick (3.22 kills per set, ninth) and Scanlon (3.60 points per set, ninth) also rank in the OVC's top-10 in their respective statistical categories.

Series History
SEMO leads the all-time series with UT Martin, 63-22. The Redhawks have won five of the last seven matchups including the most recent meeting, a 3-2 victory on Oct. 29, 2019 in Martin, Tennessee. SEMO won both 2019 meetings in Cape and on the road.
 
SEMO earned its first victory over the Skyhawks in Martin, Tennessee, since Nov. 6, 2012 (3-1) in the last meeting. Annie Wehrheim and Laney Malloy each posted team-high 13 kills in the match. Malloy also compiled 12 digs for the double-double. Mikayla Kuhlmann added 12 kills.
 
About Last Week
SEMO extended its win streak to six with a four-set and 3-0 sweep of SIUE.
 
Laney Malloy led the Redhawks attack averaging a double-double, compiling 31 kills (4.43 kills/set) and 21 digs (3.00 digs/set). Malloy opened the series with 18 kills and 11 digs before posting 13 kills and 10 digs on a .297 clip in the finale. Malloy totaled seven assists, two aces and three blocks over the two matches. She paces the OVC with 11.73 attacks per set and is third for kills (4.07 per set, 122 kills) and points (4.50 per set).
 
Ally Dion paced the SEMO defense, finishing with 25 digs. Dion notched a season-best 19 digs in the opener on Sunday before chipping in six Monday in the series finale. She also registered five service aces, four assists and two kills over the two matches. Dion ranks fifth in the OVC with 0.43 aces per set (13) and has accumulated 93 thus far in 2020-21.
 
Libero Tara Beilsmith had 21 digs over the two matches. She ranks sixth in the OVC with 4.33 digs per set (130).
 
Claire Ochs ran the Redhawks offense against SIUE, finishing with 77 assists as SEMO hit at a .285 clip over the two matches. Ochs matched a season-high 46 assists in the series opener Sunday before concluding the week with 31 Monday. Ochs added seven digs in each match and finished the week with 10 kills, three aces and three blocks. Ochs is second overall in the OVC with 314 assists and 10.47 assists per set (third).
 
The Beas Knees
Sophomore Zoey Beasley matched a career-high 17 kills Sunday against SIUE, finishing with a .389 hitting clip, for her third-straight double-digit kill match. She has now registered double-digit kill matches in the four most recent SEMO matches, concluding the week with 10 kills on a .444 hitting clip in the SIUE series finale on March 1.
  
Greene is our Favorite Color After Red
Colby Greene has registered double-digit kills in fix of the last six matches. The junior from North Liberty, Iowa, finished with 13 kills (.296) in the series opener with Belmont on Feb. 21 and concluded the trip to the Music City with seven on Feb. 22. She notched 12 on a .391 against SIUE in the opener on Feb. 28.
 
She tallied 27 (12 and 15, .375 %) in the doubleheader against Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 14. She also notched 15 kills on a .324 hitting clip to conclude the season-opening series at Jacksonville State on Feb. 8.
 
Greene is second on the Redhawks with 86 kills (2.87 kills/set) this season.
 
Adams with the Block
Senior Maggie Adams is fourth in the OVC with 1.13 blocks per set. Adams leads the Redhawks this season with 34.0 total blocks followed by Talia Gouard (25.0) and Colby Greene (21.0).
 
Offensively, Adams has posted 22 kills (0.73 kills/set) thus far.
 
Block Party!!
SEMO ranks third in the OVC with 63 total blocks. The Redhawks most recently registered 10.0 in each match against SIUE.
 
2020-21 OVC Preseason Poll
Four Redhawks were featured on the 2020-21 Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference team as the Redhawks were selected to finish first in the preseason poll. SEMO, the 2019 OVC Tournament Champions, earned 10 first place votes and 222 total votes in the predicted order of finish that was selected by OVC Head Volleyball Coaches and Sports Information Directors.
 
The Redhawks also had a league-best four players selected to the 2020-21 Preseason All-OVC volleyball team in middle blocker Maggie Adams, libero Tara Beilsmith, outside hitter Laney Malloy and setter Claire Ochs. All four were named to 2019 All-OVC Teams.
 
2019 OVC Tournament Champions
The #2-seeded Southeast Missouri women's volleyball team swept #4 Morehead State, 26-24, 25-19, 28-26, at the Pete Mathews Coliseum to capture the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship on Nov. 23, 2019. The title was the sixth for SEMO and first since 2006. With the victory, SEMO earned an automatic qualification to the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship where it faced #9-ranked Kentucky on Dec. 6, 2019.
 
SEMO also matched the 2000 Redhawks that totaled 23 wins (23-9, 16-0 OVC) with the victory on Nov. 23, 2019. Laney Malloy, Mikayla Kuhlmann and Claire Ochs were each named to the 2019 OVC All-Tournament Team. Ochs was selected as the tournament MVP. The trio is the first Redhawks awarded OVC All-Tournament Team honors since Colleen Yarber garnered the distinction in 2012.
 
Malloy led the Redhawks offense with 16 kills and 10 digs for the double-double on a .267. Kuhlmann chipped in 12 on a .417 hitting clip. Annie Wehrheim finished with seven kills (.300) and Maggie Adams had five kills and four total blocks. Ochs dished out 32 assists with eight digs and five kills. Tara Beilsmith led the SEMO defense with a match-high 18 digs.
 
SEMO concluded the 2019 campaign with a 23-11 record, finishing 12-4 in OVC play (second in the regular season).
 
Team Makeup
SEMO returns 12 players from the 2019 OVC Tournament Championship team. The 2020-21 Redhawks team features seven upperclassmen including Maggie Adams, Laney Malloy and Claire Ochs who were all starters and All-OVC performers in 2019. SEMO also returns its All-OVC libero in sophomore Tara Beilsmith.
 
There are also six newcomers on the 2020-21 squad including Radford sophomore transfer Mackenzie Meehan and freshmen Addy McAleer, Nwakaego Nwagbuo, Izzy Lukens, Lexie Smith and Kayla Closset.
 
Looking Ahead
After SEMO's trip to Martin, Tennessee, the Redhawks host Austin Peay on Sunday, March 14 and Monday, March 15 at Houck Field House. Match times are set for 7 p.m., CT and 3 p.m. for the pair of contests.
