Redhawks Capture Second OVC Win with 7-0 Sweep of Belmont Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (9-4, 2-0 OVC) upended Belmont (4-6, 1-2 OVC), 7-0, Saturday afternoon at Hadley Park to extend the Redhawks win streak to five. With the win, SEMO improved to 2-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play.
 
Lera Valeeva, Ksenia Shikanova and Daniela Hlacikova each had a pair of victories in both the singles and doubles competitions.
 
The Redhawks captured the doubles point for the fifth straight match to open Saturday's OVC dual at Belmont.
 
Hlacikova and Teona Velkoska eased past Terra Sheldon and Drew Hawkins, 6-0, at no. 3 doubles before Valeeva and Shikanova beat Somer Henry and Lauren Carelli, 6-2, at the middle doubles slot.
 
For both SEMO's doubles teams, the victories extended their respective win streaks to four.
 
SEMO then completed the sweep of the Bruins with victories at ever singles lineup spot.
 
Hlacikova beat Peyton Lee, 6-1, 6-0, at the second singles slot, to improve to 10-1 in 2021. Hlacikova has now won four straight matches.
 
Romana Tarajova then defeated Henry, 6-1, 6-4, at the no. 1 lineup spot for her fourth consecutive win.
 
Shikanova then overcame Hawkins, 7-5, 6-3, at no. 4 singles.
 
Kseniya Zonova fought past Erin Allen, 6-2, 6-7, 11-9, at the third singles position to extend the SEMO advantage to 5-0.
 
Vivian Lai then edged Sheldon, 5-7, 7-5, 10-5, at no. 5 singles for her fifth consecutive win.

Valeeva sealed the Redhawks victory with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Maria Plaksina at the final singles spot.
 
SEMO will next host Austin Peay and Murray State at the Redhawks Tennis Complex April 2-3. First service is set for 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., CT at the pair of home duals.
