JONESBORO, Ark. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (1-3) secured their first victory of the 2021 season after they defeated Arkansas State (0-2), 5-1, Sunday at the RidgePointe CC. After dropping the doubles point, SEMO rallied for five consecutive singles wins to earn the dual victory.
Trailing 1-0, the Redhawks notched wins at the third, first, second, fourth and fifth singles positions.
Daniela Hlacikova won her third straight no. 3 singles match this season, easing past Shelby King, 6-0, 6-2.
Kseniya Zonova then captured her first win of the season with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision on Thea Rice.
Romana Tarajova fought past Jill Morse, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3, for her second straight victory in 2021.
Ksenia Shikanova bested Nejla Zukic, 7-5, 7-5, for her second consecutive win in two career matches at SEMO.
Vivian Lai then beat Yasmine Humbert, 6-2, 6-2, at the final slot to conclude the dual for her first victory in 2021.
The sixth singles match went unfinished with Arkansas State's Amelia Guevremont leading
Teona Velkoska, 8-4.
In doubles, the Red Wolves won all three matches for the point. Rice and Zukic beat Zonova and Velkoska, 6-3, at the top position before Humbert and Morse bested Shikanova and Lai, 6-3, at no. 3
Guevremont and King then defeated Tarajova and Hlacikova, 6-2, at the middle spot.
SEMO next heads to Springfield, Missouri, for a doubleheader against Missouri State on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13.
