
Redhawks Set to Run at 2021 OVC Cross Country Championship Saturday in Nashville

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri is poised to compete at the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championship Saturday in the Music City. The meet will be conducted at the Vaughn's Creek Cross Country Course at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
The men's 8K race will begin at 9 a.m., CT followed by the women's 5K slated for 10 a.m. The meet is free and open to the public.
Tennessee State is serving as the host for the first time since 2009. The event was last held in Nashville in 2016 when Belmont hosted. All 10 OVC schools will be competing in the event.
This will be the 61st OVC men's championship, as the first one was held in 1962. The women's championship will be determined for the 43rd time this year.
During the 2020-21 season, the Eastern Illinois men and the Eastern Kentucky women's teams won the OVC Championships this past March in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Katie Wegmann earned Second-Team All-OVC honors to lead the SEMO women to a fourth place finish (101 points) in the 5K at the 2020-21 OVC Cross Country Championship held at Weakley Park. The SEMO men finished seventh (169) in the 8K and were led by Terrico Garrett who finished 25th.
Wegmann paced SEMO with a time of 19:54.0 for eighth out of a field of 78 runners in the 5K. Carli Knott was named the OVC Female Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of the Championship.
Knott posted the fourth fastest Redhawks time with 20:33.0 in the 5K for 22nd. Maddie Keller completed the Championship race in 20:16.0 (16th) and Jane Boessen placed 20th, clocking in at 20:29.0. Hannah Eastman rounded out the SEMO scorers with a mark of 21:21.0 for 35th.
On the men's side, Garrett led the men with a time of 28:56.2 for 25th in the 8K. Schuyler Ogden (29:10.7, 31st), Noah Little (29:27.5, 34th), Chris Durr (29:50.7, 39th) and Aaron Modrow (29:53.4, 40th) completed the SEMO top-five at the Championship hosted by Austin Peay.
The Redhawk men have finished third two times in 2021 (Soybean Invitational, Sept. 3 and Golden Eagle Invitational, Oct. 15) and were fourth at Louisville's Live in Lou Cross Country Classic (Oct. 2).
Seth Gleason has finished in the SEMO top-five at all four meets and finished first for the Redhawks twice. He opened the season with an eighth place showing (20:03.5) at the Soybean Invitational (Sept. 3) and posted a personal-best 8K in Louisville, Kentucky (Oct. 2) of 25:12.7 for 15th.
Justin Splitt has also scored for the Redhawks in all four regular-season meets. He notched a career-best 8K of 25:55.3 at the Louisville's Live in Lou Cross Country Classic (Oct. 2). Splitt most recently led the SEMO men with a 13th place finish (26:28.4) at the Golden Eagle Invitational (Oct. 15).
Aaron Modrow finished fourth overall at the UT Martin Soybean Invitational (19:53.5) and has scored for SEMO in three races in 2021. He took 21st at Louisville's Live in Lou Cross Country Classic (Oct. 2), completing the 8K in 25:22.0.
Byron Sowerby, Nick Cimmarusti, Schuyler Ogden, Travis Sickles, Garrett Dumke, and Clayton Eftink have also, all finished in the top-five at some point for the Redhawks this fall.
The SEMO women have two fourth place finishes in 2021 at the Soybean Invitational (Sept. 3) and the Live in the Lou Cross Country Classic (Oct. 2). The Redhawk women were also fifth most recently at Tennessee Tech's Golden Eagle Invitational (Oct. 15).
Madelyn Gray has led the way for the women in the fall, finishing as the top SEMO runner in three races. The St. Peters, Missouri, native, has scored for the Redhawks in all four meets.
Gray finished as high as seventh overall at the Soybean Invitational (Sept. 3) with a time of 18:03.9. She also was 11th (19:41.6) at the Golden Eagle Invitational (Oct. 15) after setting a PR in the 5K at the Live in the Lou Cross Country Classic (Oct. 2, 18:46.5, 16th).
Claire Morrill has also scored in all four meets for the women while Jane Boessen has finished in the top-five three times. Morrill completed the 5K at the Live in the Lou Cross Country Classic (Oct. 2) in a personal-best time of 19:34.0 (71st).
Boessen placed 12th at the season-opening Soybean Invitational (Sept. 3, 18:31.2) and ran a personal-high 5K of 19:02.4 (30th) at the Live in the Lou Cross Country Classic (Oct. 2).

Sarah Russom, Brianna Payton, Haley Smith, Taylor Fox and Maddie Keller have all posted top-five finishes to score for the Redhawk women.
Following the Championship, SEMO will compete at the NCAA Midwest Regionals Friday, Nov. 12 in Iowa City, Iowa, on the campus of Iowa.
