Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Redhawks Blank Eastern Illinois, 1-0

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Freshman Megan Heisserer scored the only goal of the game to lead Southeast Missouri (4-3) to a 1-0 shutout over Eastern Illinois (1-5-1) Sunday afternoon at Houck Field.

SEMO is 2-0 to start Ohio Valley Conference play for the first time in eight years. The Redhawks won their first four OVC contests in 2011.

Heisserer posted her team-high third goal of the season in the 33rd minute of play. Esmie Gonzales kicked the ball back to Heisserer who then made her shot from 10 yards out.

SEMO did not allow one shot in the first half and held a 7-0 advantage over EIU in that category.

Bailey Redden saved all seven of the Panthers shots on goal in the second half to get her first shutout of the season.

For the day, the Redhawks outshout EIU, 13-9, and fired 11 shots on goal.

SEMO's soccer program capped an undefeated 6-0 weekend for Redhawk athletic teams. Soccer went 2-0, volleyball won the Memphis Beale Street Classic with a 3-0 mark and football beat West Virginia State.

The Redhawks return to league action at Austin Peay on Sept. 27.
