CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southeast Missouri defeated Southern Illinois, 2-1, in exhibition action Saturday night. The exhibition matchup was the first for the Saluki women's soccer progrram.
The Redhawks controlled the ball a majority of the first half, outshooting the Salukis 17-5.
Lauren Welker scored the first goal of the contest at the 22 minute mark in the first half. Welker scored off an assist by
Emily Holten.
In the second half, the Salukis tied game on a free kick inside the box at the 56 minute mark.
Hannah Compernolle would knock in the game-winning goal at the 80 minute mark. Compernolle scored off an assist by freshman
Hailey Block.
Bailey Redden played all 90 minutes in goal, recording six saves and allowing just one goal.
SEMO, which went undefeated in exhibition play (3-0), will open regular season action vs. Southern Mississippi on Aug. 25.
