Redhawks Get 15 Hits, But Come Up Short in 8-7 Loss to Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Grayson Taylor scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Belmont (23-21, 17-8) an 8-7 walk off win over Southeast Missouri (20-27, 7-15) Friday night.

Tied, 7-7, Taylor walked and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. On the next play, Hagan Severance reached on an error and Taylor touched home for the decisive unearned run.

Belmont trailed 7-4 before tying the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Devon Gardner doubled to center and both Chase Hadden and Jackson Campbell scored. Severance was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded allowing Gardner to score.

SEMO started strong and built an early 4-0 lead.

Connor Basler ripped a triple down the right field line to drive in Peyton Faulkner in the top of the first. Hunter Southerland homered to left and Basler knocked in Faulkner again on a triple in the next inning. Basler also stole home to cap the three-run second.

The Redhawks scored once more in the fourth, sixth and seventh frames.

Faulkner hit a solo home run to right, Basler laid down a bunt single and Alex Nielsen reached on a fielder's choice enabling Tyler Wilber to score for those tallies.

Blake Cisneros (1-3) took the loss allowing one run on one hit in an inning out of the bullpen. Dylan Dodd worked four innings in his start on the mound.

SEMO collected 15 hits for the game. Basler went 3-for-5 with his two triples, two RBI and a run scored to lead the way. Wilber, Austin Blazevic, Nielsen, Southerland and Faulkner followed close behind with two hits each.

The Redhawks and Bruins resume their series at 6 p.m., CT, Saturday.
