MOREHEAD, Ky. – Tyler Wilber went 4-for-5 with a double to lead four five players in multiple hits as Southeast Missouri (23-30, 10-18) dropped a 12-9 decision to Morehead State (35-19, 17-11) Thursday in the series-opener for both teams.
SEMO held a 5-1 lead after three-and-a-half innings before MSU answered with 12 runs over the next five innings.
Devon Wilson's three-run home run keyed a five-run top of the fourth four SEMO.
The Eagles, however, countered with six tallied in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back.
Jon Burghardt hit a two-run home run and Hunter Fain, Reid Leonard, Jake Hammon and Connor Pauley all knocked in a run to put MSU ahead, 7-5.
Fain delivered a two-RBI triple in the fifth and Pauley hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the Eagles lead to 11-6.
MSU scored once more in the seventh and eighth innings to cap its victory.
Dalton Stambaugh (7-3) picked up the win. Stambaugh struck out three and allowed five runs on six hits in four innings. Landon Weins earned his second save of the season.
Logan Winder (2-3) was charged with the loss in relief. Winder gave up five runs and six hits, while striking out two and walking one in 2.2 innings.
SEMO (14) and MSU (16) combined for 30 hits in the game, eight of which went for extra bases.
Wilber, Austin Blazevic (2), Alex Nielsen (2), Andrew Keck (2) and Wilson (2) accounted for 12 of the 14 hits for the Redhawks. Keck and Wilson added three RBI, as well.
Pauly and Trevor Snyder each went 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Pauly also had four RBI.
The Redhawks and Eagles resume their series Friday at 4 p.m., CT.
