JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Romana Tarajova,
Kseniya Zonova and
Teona Velkoska each earned singles victories Saturday as Southeast Missouri women's tennis (9-9, 2-4 OVC) was edged by Jacksonville State (12-3, 5-1 OVC), 4-3, at the JSU Tennis Courts.

The dual match was delayed until 1:30 p.m. due to rain after initially being scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The Gamecocks claimed the doubles point to start the dual with a 1-0 lead after wins at the first and second positions. Alba Conejero and Malin Buechner bested
Isabella Krupa and Velkoska, 6-3, before Harriet Hamilton and Elena Tendero beat Zonova and
Manuela Barriga, 6-3.Â

Tarajova then knotted the match at 1-1 when the competition shifted to singles. She ousted Hamilton, 6-0, 6-0, at the top position to improve to 11-4 in 2019.Â

JSU reclaimed the lead, 3-1, with wins at the no. 3 and no. 6 singles positions. Buechner beat Krupa, 6-3, 6-0, and then Cristina Moll Alles defeated
Sneha Sinha, 6-3, 6-1.Â

Southeast answered with wins at the second and fifth slots to even the contest at 3-3. Zonova overcame Alessia Locati, 7-5, 6-1, and Velkoska beat Tendero with a 6-1, 7-6 decision.

In the decisive final singles match, Conejero fought past
Anais Emelie in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, at the fourth position.Â

Southeast next returns home to close out the regular dual season Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20 at the Redhawks Tennis Complex. The Redhawks host SIUE on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m. and then face Eastern Illinois Saturday, April 20 at noon.
