PADUCAH, Ky. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (5-4) captured its third straight dual meet victory with a 4-2 decision over Louisiana Tech (3-7) Monday at the McCracken County High School Tennis Indoor Facility.
Romana Tarajova and
Manuela Barriga each earned singles and doubles victories in the dual.
Southeast grabbed its seventh consecutive doubles point to open the meet with LA Tech with wins at the second and third positions.
Tarajova and Barriga beat Andrea Perez-Lopez and Ilana Tetruashvili, 6-2, for the duo's third straight win.
Isabella Krupa and
Teona Velkoska then ousted Ana Jover and Leonie Nutz, 3-6, for their team leading eighth doubles victory and sixth in a row.
When the competition moved to singles, SEMO extended its advantage on the Lady Techsters to 2-0. Tarajova registered her team best sixth singles win with a 6-0, 7-5, match over Sonia Chen at the top spot.
Louisiana Tech then cut the Redhawks lead to 2-1 at no. 3 singles when Tetruashvili defeated Krupa 6-2, 6-3.
Kseniya Zonova pushed the dual back in favor of Southeast, 3-1, at the second slot when she bested Jover, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
Claudia Oravcova fought past Velkoska, 6-2, 2-6 6-2, to chip the margin to 3-2 in the fourth singles match.
Barriga then sealed the dual victory for Southeast with her first career dual singles win at the sixth position. The freshman from Bogotá, Colombia, eased past Nutz, 6-2, 6-3.
Southeast next hits the road for three duals. The Redhawks face Louisiana-Monroe Saturday at 3 p.m. and then take on Jackson State Sunday at 11 a.m. in Jackson, Mississippi. SEMO concludes the trio of road tilts Tuesday, March 12 at 2 p.m. at Loyola New Orleans.
