CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.– Austin Peay (10-9, 5-2) scored four runs in the second inning and that was enough to get by Southeast Missouri (12-10, 2-5), 4-2, Friday night at Capaha Field.
SEMO played its first game under the new lights at Capaha Field. The Redhawks played 21 day games prior to their series-opener against the Governors tonight.
Garrett Spain led off the top of the second inning with a single and went to second on a base hit by Sebastian Martinez. Malcolm Tipler was hit by a pitch to load the bases before back-to-back RBI-hits followed. Bobby Head then reached on an error and Tipler scored. John McDonald later touched home on a fielder's choice to give APSU a 4-0 advantage.
Danny Wright reached on a one-out triple in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored SEMO's first run of the game when
Tyler Wilber hit an infield single.
Hunter Southerland hit a one-out double an inning later and scored on
Connor Basler's single up the middle to make it a 4-2 game.
SEMO had the bases loaded with two outs in the sixth inning, but came up empty and did not score the rest of the way after that.
Dylan Dodd (4-2) took the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out six with no walks in six innings.
Josh Rye (3-2) picked up the win. Rye allowed two runs on five hits, struck out three and walked three in five innings.
Wright and Wilber had two hits to lead SEMO. The Redhawks finished with six hits for the game.
SEMO, which has dropped seven of its last nine games, resumes its series with APSU on Saturday at 2 p.m., CT.
