NORMAL, Ill. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (3-4) swept Creighton (2-6), 4-0, to earn third place at Illinois State's Redbird Invitational Sunday at the Bloomington Tennis Center.
Southeast opened the dual with two doubles wins to capture the doubles point for the fifth consecutive meet.
Romana Tarajova and
Manuela Barriga cruised by Claire Embree and Erin Epperson, 6-1, at the no. 3 position for their second straight win.
Isabella Krupa and
Teona Velkoska then overcame Michaela Henne and Gabby O'Connor, 6-4, to extend their win streak to four.
When the dual switched to singles, Tarajova registered her fourth (singles and doubles) victory of the weekend at the top slot. The freshman from Dolný Kubín, Slovakia, notched her third straight singles win with a 6-3, 6-2 decision on Ashley Ishimura.
Sneha Sinha then fought past Meredith Benson, 6-2, 7-5, at the sixth singles slot to push the Redhawks advantage to 3-0.
Anais Emelie then utilized a first set tiebreaker to beat Claire Embree 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, at the no. 5 singles to capture the SEMO sweep. The win marked the second consecutive victory for Emelie in 2019.
Southeast next faces Bradley at the McCracken County High School Tennis Indoor Facility in Paducah, Kentucky, on Saturday, March 2 at 8:30 a.m.
