Tolbert Leads Redhawks in 83-70 Loss to Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.– Southeast Missouri (9-19, 4-11) shot over 50 percent for the second-straight game in an 83-70 road loss to Austin Peay (20-8, 12-3) Thursday night at the Dunn Center.

SEMO started the game red-hot connecting on 14-of-24 from the floor for a blazing 58.3 percent in the first half. The Redhawks also made over 66 percent (6-of-9) of their 3-pointers in that span.

At one time, the Redhawks made a field goal on six consecutive possessions and led by as many as five points on multiple occasions. SEMO and APSU exchanged leads six times and battled to three ties in the opening stanza before the Governors held a 41-36 lead at the intermission.

SEMO managed to get within one when Gabe McGlothan's jumper made it a 52-51 game with 12:40 remaining. APSU, however, answered with a 13-2 run and never looked back.

Freshman Sage Tolbert led SEMO with 14 points, while Nygal Russell followed with 11 and Jonathan Dalton added 10. Dalton scored all of his points in the first half.

The Redhawks went a perfect 12-of-12 at the free throw line and shot over 50 percent from the field in back-to-back games for the first time this year. SEMO finished with a 51 percent clip (25-of-49).

APSU put four players in double figures with Chris Porter-Bunton paving the way with 19 points. Jabari McGhee turned in a double-double 18 points and 19 rebounds (12 offensive) off the bench. Terry Taylor and Isaiah Bunton chipped in 13 apiece.

The Governors outrebounded SEMO, 39-27, and held a 20-5 advantage on the offensive glass. APSU scored 38 points in the paint and 20 second chance points, as well.

SEMO closes out its season-long four-game road stretch at rival Murray State Saturday.
