CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Hailey Block and Kennedy Jones each scored to lead Southeast Missouri (7-4) to a 2-0 shutout over rival Southern Illinois (4-8) Sunday afternoon on a rainy day at Houck Field.
Block scored her third goal in two games when she put SEMO ahead, 1-0, in the 18thminute of action. She took off up the middle from 30 yards out after Siena Senatore weaved the ball through defenders before putting the ball in the net.
Jones scored her first collegiate goal late in the game at the 87-minute mark to complete second shutout of the year. Esmie Gonzales was credited with the assist on the play.
SEMO registered 17 shots, including seven on goal, while SIU had eight for the afternoon. Bailey Redden saved all four of the Salukis shots on goal. The Redhawks had 10 corner kicks, as well.
Block and Gonzales combined to fire seven shots for the game, three of which were on goal.
The Redhawks, who have won two-straight and five of their last six games, return to Ohio Valley Conference play at Eastern Kentucky on Oct. 11.
