Redhawks Sweep William Woods in Fall Doubleheader Saturday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis swept its doubleheader against William Woods Saturday at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
 
Southeast won the morning match 5-2 before taking a 6-1 decision on William Woods in the afternoon contest. 
 
Romana Tarajova was perfect with four wins on the day including two singles wins at the top spot and two wins at first doubles. 
 
In singles, Vivian Lai, Maja Lundell and Teona Velkoska each achieved a pair of wins. 
 
Southeast grabbed the doubles point to start each of the dual matches of the doubleheader. 
 
The Redhawks needed the decisive first doubles match to win the point in the morning. Vivian Lai and Telkoska eased past Hannah Meyer and Mireia Jordan 6-1, at the second slot before Tarajova and Zonova fought past Ana Zavala and Zlata Shuraeva, 7-6.
 
In the afternoon tilt, Tarajova and Zonova bested Alessa Cremer and Hannah Meyer, 6-1, at no. 1 before Grace Powderly and Maja Lundell secured the doubles point with a 6-2 decision on Mireia Jordan and Ariadna Jordan in the third doubles match. 
 
SEMO won four singles matches in the morning dual before garnering five in the afternoon portion of the doubleheader. 
 
Tarajova defeated Ana Zavala, 6-4, 6-1, and Velkoska cruised past Alessa Cremer, 6-1, 6-0, at the third singles spot. 
 
In fourth singles, Lai overcame Mireia Jordan, 6-2, 6-2. Lundell also beat Hannah Meyer 6-2, 6-2.
 
In the afternoon set, Tarajova bested Alessa Cremer, 6-2, 6-1, at the top slot for her fourth victory Saturday. 
 
At the second position, Zonova defeated Meyer, 6-1, 6-0. Velkoska grabbed her second singles win of the day at the third spot, when she fought past Ana Zavala 7-5, 6-4.
 
Lai beat Zlata Shuraeva who won her third Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional singles title last week, 6-3, 6-2, at no. 4 singles. Lundell also fought past Ariadna Jordan 6-4, 5-7, 10-6, at the fifth slot. 
 
The Redhawks next head to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, for the ITA Central Regional Oct. 17-22. Southeast concludes its fall season at the Stetson Invitational Nov. 1-3 in Deland, Florida.
