Southeast Notches Six Wins Including Two Over Power-Five Schools to Open ITA Regional Championship

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Romana Tarajova and Kseniya Zonova each registered victories over Power-Five Schools as Southeast Missouri women's tennis opened the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Regional Championship Thursday with six wins at the Adams Tennis Complex.
Tarajova bested Nikol Dobrilova of the Big Ten's Purdue, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, while Zonova overcame Kylie Duckworth of the Southeastern Conference's Tennessee, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, Thursday in the Main Singles Draw.
Tarajova will face Vanderbilt's #1-seeded Amanda Meyer Friday at 9 a.m. and Zonova will meet Anna Ross of Vanderbilt at 10 a.m.
Vivian Lai and Teona Velkoska each tallied singles wins in the B Flight.
Lai, the top seed in the draw, beat Hannah Watton of Northern Kentucky, 7-6 (6), 6-1, after an opening round bye. Velkoska defeated Autumn Clark (Northern Kentucky) 6-3, 6-1 before falling to Maddox Bandy of Lipscomb, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Lai will next take on Aziza Aubin of UT Martin Friday at 9 a.m.
In doubles action, Lai and Velkoska teamed up for a pair of wins in the B Flight Doubles Draw. The duo ousted Belmont's Somer Henry and Terra Sheldon, 8-2, before defeating Lipscomb's Liza Diachenko and Bandy, 8-3.
Lai and Velkoska will face Monique Woog and Hannah Davies of Memphis Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Tarajova and Zonova dropped their Doubles Main Draw match to Seira Shimizu and Dobrilova of Purdue, 8-5. The duo will meet Indiana's Caitlin Bernard and Mila Mejic in the main doubles consolation draw at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Velkoska will take on Belmont's Sarah Brackin in the B Flight Singles Consolation Bracket Friday at 3:30 p.m.
