Block Delivers Game-Winner to Send Redhawks to 2-1 Double Overtime Victory

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Hailey Block's first two career goals gave Southeast Missouri (6-4, 4-1) a dramatic 2-1 double overtime victory over SIU Edwardsville (3-5-3, 1-2-2) Thursday night at Houck Field.

Deadlocked at 1-1, Block sent the ball to the lower left corner of the net off a nice cross from Jennifer Brien at the right side of the box. The win, SEMO's league-high fourth in conference play, kept the Redhawks at the top of the OVC standings with 12 total points.

SEMO and SIUE were scoreless through 65 minutes of play before Block scored her first goal of the season to get the Redhawks a 1-0 advantage. Block scored on a header off a pass from Emily Holten, who was across the box.

With 12 ticks on the clock, Courtney Benning sent the game to overtime. Benning's second goal of the season came from the left side of the box to cap the dramatic final seconds of regulation.

Both SIUE and SEMO were even with 11 shots on goal. Overall, the Cougars outshot the Redhawks, 20-17, for the night.

Becca Jostes finished with a game-high six shots, including four on goal.

Block, Abby Tremain, Esmie Gonzales, Megan Heisserer, Lexi Grote and Brien each had two shots on goal for the Redhawks.
