
Redhawks Set to Compete at ITA Regional Championships in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Thursday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis heads to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Regional Championships Thursday through Tuesday at the Adams Tennis Complex.
Romana Tarajova and Kseniya Zonova will compete as a team in the main doubles draw as well as individually in the main singles draw. Teona Velkoska and Vivian Lai will also represent Southeast at the Regional in the B Flight Doubles draw and individually in the B Flight Singles bracket.
The Adams Tennis Complex will also serve as the host site for the 2020 Ohio Valley Conference Women's Tennis Championships April 17-19. The venue features 24 outdoor courts in addition to eight indoor tennis courts, two electronic scoreboards, a pro shop along with a lounge area that has a mezzanine for spectator viewing. The facility is a joint partnership between the city of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State University and the Christy-Houston Foundation.
Southeast enters the Regional after posting a doubleheader victory over William Woods at the Redhawks Tennis Complex on Oct. 5.
Tarajova was perfect with four wins on the day including two singles wins at the top spot and two wins at first doubles. Tarajova leads SEMO this fall with a 7-2 singles mark.
In singles, Lai, Velkoska and Maja Lundell each achieved a pair of wins against William Woods.
Lai and Velkoska are tied for second on the team during the fall slate with a 6-2 singles records.
In doubles, Velkoska and Lai pace Southeast with a 4-3 mark.
During the fall campaign, Tarajova, Manuela Barriga, Lai and Velkoska have each won titles at tournaments. Lai captured a doubles championship with Velkoska at the Austin Peay Fall Invitational and also grabbed a singles championship at the Central Arkansas (UCA) Fall Invitational.
Also, at the UCA Fall Invitational, Tarajova and Barriga were awarded their third career fall doubles title at the second flight.
Tarajova led the Redhawks as a freshman at the 2018 ITA Regional with a Round of 32s finish at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex in Iowa City, Iowa. She earned a first round bye before defeating Missouri's Taylor Gruber, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the Round of 32s.
Southeast wraps up its fall schedule with a trip to Deland, Florida, Nov. 1-3 for the Stetson Invitational.
The 2020 Redhawks dual season begins on Jan. 29 at Saint Louis and includes 17 matches. SEMO hosts three-straight OVC contests from March 27 through April 4 against Austin Peay, Murray State and Jacksonville State.
