Shephard Drops Seven Three-Pointers in Redhawks 80-73 Loss to UT Martin

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Carrie Shephard scored a career-high 25 points and drained seven 3-pointers as Southeast Missouri (6-7, 1-1) fell to UT Martin (9-4, 1-1), 80-73, Saturday afternoon at the Show Me Center.

SEMO held a 70-59 lead early in the fourth quarter when UT Martin went on a 17-0 run to take a six-point lead and never looked back. The Skyhawks outscored the Redhawks, 23-7, in the final 10 minutes of play.

The Redhawks led by as many as 18 after they buried a trio of 3-pointers in the first few minutes of the third period. SEMO also led for over 28 minutes of the game before surrendering its lead in the fourth quarter.

Shephard came two 3-pointers away from tying SEMO's single-game record of nine 3-pointers done by Hannah Noe vs. Eastern Illinois on Feb. 11, 2017. Shephard, now with 34 three-pointers this year, is already halfway to SEMO's current single-season record of 68 threes by Juilie Meier (1993-94).

A native of Steele, Missouri, Shephard shot 9-of-17 from the field and 7-of-13 from downtown. She also had two rebounds and one assist. Adrianna Murphy followed with 18 points on 8-of-10 field goals, had a game-high seven assists and five rebounds.

Tionne Colyer added seven rebounds, while Taelour Pruitt contributed nine points.

SEMO shot 50 percent (27-of-54) from the field and 50 percent (11-of-22) from beyond the arc. The Redhawks outrebounded the Skyhawks, 33-31, as well.

Maddie Waldrop and Emanye Robertson led UTM with 20 and 15 points, respectively. The Skyhawks outscored the Redhawks, 21-8, at the free throw line. UTM was a perfect 9-of-9 at the free throw line during the decisive fourth quarter.

SEMO returns to action when it hosts Austin Peay on Jan. 10.
