Redhawks Power Past the Panthers, 72-57, For Third-Straight Win

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (10-9, 5-3 OVC) powered past Eastern Illinois (8-11, 2-6 OVC) Saturday evening for a 57-72 Redhawk victory. SEMO in the Show Me Center for the third-consecutive Redhawk victory. 
 
SEMO went 27-of-51 (.529) for a season-best to EIU 17-of-47 (.362). Eastern Illinois dropped eight three-pointers in the game, with guard Carmen Tellez dropping three. 
 
Southeast logged 34 points in the paint to 10 by the Panthers. SEMO noted 25 defensive rebounds, with Losmie Lutaya recording 10 rebounds herself. 
 
Tesia Thompson recorded her tenth straight double-digit game this season after posting 26 points against the Panthers. This was Thompson's 16th double-digit game this season and 38th in her career. 
 
Thompson also dished out eight rebounds and a season-high five assists on the night. 
 
The Panthers started the game with a 9-2 run over Southeast, only to have the Redhawks come back with a 16-0 run that included a EIU scoring drought that went from 5:27 in the first quarter to 5:29 in the second. 
 
Carrie Shephard sank a three-pointer just seconds left in the second quarter to push the Redhawks up by eight points going into half. This was one of her three long shots in the third quarter. 
 
In the third quarter, Southeast went on a 6-0 run to push the Redhawks above the Panthers 44-38. A run that would keep Southeast ahead for the remainder of the game. 
 
Thompson racked up 10 points in the final quarter of play as the Redhawks outscored EIU 23-13 in the fourth quarter. 
 
SEMO led by as much as 15 points late in the final quarter of play with a jumper by Adrianna Murphy
 
Southeast will hit the road to face Belmont and Tennessee State this upcoming weekend.
