Southeast Sweeps SIUE with 63-58 Victory

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.Tesia Thompson second-straight game with a double-double Thursday night in Southeast Missouri (9-9, 4-3) 63-58 victory over SIU Edwardsville (9-8, 4-3).

Thompson recorded 22 points and 10 rebounds in efforts to record her sixth double-double of the season and her ninth straight double-digit point game.

Southeast started the night with a demanding lead after a quarter when the Redhawks stunned the Cougars 20-7 out of the gate. This included a 15-2 run for SEMO.

The Cougars outscored the Redhawks 17-13 in the second quarter, with Thompson posting seven points and four rebounds in the quarter.

SIUE guard Nakiah Bell made a long shot at the buzzer to cut the 33-26 SEMO to just seven right before halftime.

Southeast went on a four- minute drought in the middle of the third quarter. This allowed SIUE to cut the game to just five points.

SIUE took the lead for six seconds with 4:21 left in the final quarter before Carrie Shephard dropped one of her three long shots of the night. Shephard would finish the night with 10 points and three assists.

Losmie Lutaya recorded a career-high 10 points against the Cougars, scoring her first double-figure point game in a Redhawk uniform.

SEMO went 17-of-21 (.810) from the charity stripe, partially because of Thompson going 11-of-12 from the line on the night.

The Cougars posted 32 points from their bench, with Micah Jones leading with 16 points. As a team, SIUE posted 21 offensive boards to SEMO 11.

Southeast will host Eastern Illinois Saturday night at the Show Me Center.
