RICHMOND, Ky. –
Tesia Thompson turned in a double-double 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Southeast Missouri (8-9, 3-3) to a 52-42 win over Eastern Kentucky (2-15, 0-6) Saturday at McBrayer Arena.
Thompson recorded her team-high fifth double-double fo the season as SEMO kept EKU winless in Ohio Valley Conference play.
SEMO started strong with a 7-0 run after the opening tip. After EKU tied the game at 13-13 with 1:42 remaining in the first quarter, the Redhawks used a 9-0 surge just before halftime to grab a 30-25 edge at the intermission.
Thompson heated up to score 15 of her points in the second half as SEMO pulled away for good. She scored baskets twice after EKU pulled to within three points and later hit two free throws to give SEMO its biggest lead with 10 seconds left.
Thompson shot 6-of-12 from the field and 5-of-8 at the free throw line en route to her game-high 17 points. She also had 11 defensive rebounds, dished out four assists and collected a game-high four steals.
Jocelyn Taylor followed with 11 points and four rebounds.
SEMO shot 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the field in the first half and finished under 40 percent (39.6) for the game.
The Redhawks outscored the Colonels, 28-14, in the paint and forced 20 turnovers. In addition, SEMO limited EKU to just 25.5 percent (13-of-51) from the floor.
Shay Solomon paved the way for EKU with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
SEMO returns to Cape Girardeau to host SIU Edwardsville on Jan. 24.
