CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis will host the Redhawk Tennis Intrasquad Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
"We have a team that is playing very high level tennis right now and I expect that we will see some close, challenging matches in our intrasquad matchups," head coach Mary Beth Gunn said. "We have not played a dual match format yet this fall and this intrasquad will give the freshmen an opportunity to see what our team format matches look like and what to expect in the spring."
The 2018-19 Redhawk tennis team is made up of 10 players and features five returners with seniors Isabella Krupa and Anais Emelie along with junior Kseniya Zonova and sophomores Maja Lundell and Kelly Sicha all back for the 2018-19 campaign.
Zonova led the team in 2017-18 with a 20-10 singles record (10-6 duals, 6-3 OVC) as she earned Second-Team All-OVC honors.
The team also has five freshmen in Manuela Barriga, Sneha Sinha, Romana Tarajova, Teona Velkoska and Cape Girardeau, Missouri native, Grace Powderly.
This fall, Sinha finished as the Flight B Singles runner-up at the Austin Peay Fall Invitational the opening weekend on Sept. 15 in Clarksville, Tennessee. Barriga and Tarajova also claimed the Flight B Doubles Championship at the Central Arkansas (UCA) Fall Invitational this past weekend (Sept. 22) in Conway, Arkansas.
Southeast continues its fall season at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional Oct. 12-16 at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex in Iowa City, Iowa. SEMO then travels to Springfield, Missouri, Oct. 26-28 for the Missouri State Fall Invitational to conclude the fall slate.
The Redhawks open their spring schedule against Missouri of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in Columbia, Missouri, Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m.
