CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (2-5) dropped its Ohio Valley Conference opener to rival Murray State, 4-1, Thursday night at Houck Field.
Every goal came in the second half of the game.
MSU struck first with a goal off of a mixer in the box at the 48th minute. The Racers later added two goals on penalty kicks.
Esmie Gonzales scored off a free kick that crossed the Racers goalkeeper's body. SEMO made it 2-1 at the 68th minute.
The Racers answered with two more goals before the end of regulation.
The game was physical, as there were four yellow cards administered during play. Both teams earned two cautions and added plenty of defensive stops.
MSU had 10 shots on goal to SEMO's two. Redhawks goalie
Maddie Gleeson had six saves.
The Redhawks remain home to host UT Martin Sunday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m., CT.
