Southeast on Right Track after Redhawk Scrimmage Saturday at Houck Field House

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's volleyball competed in the Redhawk Scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Houck Field House in preparation for the 2018 season.

The red team led by assistant coach Carly Thomas edged the gray team coached by assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Bob Crank, 18-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-19.

"We had a very competitive and exciting intrasquad scrimmage," head coach Julie Yankus said. "It was great to showcase our entire team in front of a solid crowd. We know we need to continue to work on our first ball contacts and fine tune our ability to handle scramble plays."

Claire Ochs, Emily Boggetto, Madara Bajare, Laney Malloy, Madeline Grimm and Colby Greene made up the red team. Crank's gray team consisted of Keegan Fornoff, Ally Dion, Mikayla Kuhlmann, Kendall Washington, Haley Bilbruck and Annie Wehrheim

Middle blockers Krista Berns, Maggie Adams and Elissa Moylan played on both teams during the scrimmage.

"Emily Boggetto had a great performance today," Yankus said of Boggetto's unofficial double-double outing of 12 digs and 10 assists with three aces. "She did a great job defensively and made some amazing plays."

Yankus was also impressed by Ochs. The freshman setter from Chesterfield, Missouri, tallied 33 assists and 15 digs as her red team recorded a hitting clip of .257.

"Claire Ochs did a great job running her team's offense and she played some incredible defense as well," Yankus said.

The Redhawk Scrimmage served as the final tune up before the start of fall classes on Monday and the season-opening Troy Invitational August 24-25 at the Trojan Arena in Troy, Alabama.

"Overall, I'm excited about the progress we've made this preseason and I feel we are well on our way to being prepared for our first official match next week," Yankus said.

SEMO will start the Troy Invitational with a doubleheader on Friday, playing Southern at noon, CT and then facing Southeastern Louisiana at 3:30 p.m. The Redhawks meet the tournament host, Trojans, Saturday (Aug. 25) morning at 10 a.m.
