OXFORD, Ala. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (4-12, 1-6 OVC) claimed the doubles point to start its dual meet at Jacksonville State (11-4, 4-3 OVC) but fell to the Gamecocks, 4-3, Sunday morning at the Oxford Sports Complex.
 
After the Gamecocks took the no. 1 doubles match, Southeast rallied off wins at the second and third positions. Anais Emelie and Isabella Krupa registered their first win as partners in 2018 when they beat Alessia Locati and Diana Monsalve, 6-4, at no. 3 doubles.
 
The Redhawks then seized the doubles point when Alessandra Maya Thompson and Maja Lundell battled past Malin Buechner and Alba Conejero in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8).
 
Maya Thompson grew SEMO's lead in the dual to 2-0 when she breezed past Elena Tendero, 6-2, 6-1, at no. 4 singles.
 
JSU responded with three straight singles victories at the fifth, sixth and first positions to take a 3-2 edge in the meet.
 
Kseniya Zonova evened the contest at 3-3 with her third straight singles win at the second singles slot. Zonova fought past Locati, 7-6, in the first set and then claimed the match with a 6-2 second set.
 
With the dual knotted at 3-3 and one match remaining, Buechner defeated Krupa in a highly competitive contest at no. 4 singles, 6-4, 7-6 (5), to give the Gamecocks the dual win.
 
Southeast closes out its regular season with back-to-back road meets at Eastern Illinois and SIUE. The Redhawks face EIU on Friday in Charleston, Illinois, at 10 a.m. and then take on the Cougars Saturday at 11 a.m. in Edwardsville, Illinois.
