Southeast Tennis Fall to Eastern Illinois, 6-1, Friday

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (4-13, 1-7) fell to Eastern Illinois (11-12, 5-3 OVC), 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Lantz Fieldhouse.
 
After the meet was delayed due to thunderstorms all morning, the coaches agreed to move the dual from the Darling Tennis Courts to indoors at the Lantz Fieldhouse.
 
Anais Emelie provided the lone win for Southeast at the fifth singles position. Emelie beat EIU's Emily Pugachevsky, 6-2, 6-4.
 
Both the second and third singles matches needed three sets. Grace Summers took the opening set on Kseniya Zonova at no. 2 singles, 6-1; before Zonova evened the match with a 6-3 second-set win. Summers then fought past Zonova in the final set, 6-4.
 
At the third singles position, Isabella Krupa outlasted Rachel Papavasilopoulos in the first set, 7-6, with a 7-5 tiebreaker. Papavasilopoulos then knotted the match at 1-1 when she won the second set, 7-5, before claiming the contest with a 6-1 third set.
 
The Redhawks face SIUE in Edwardsville, Illinois, on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the regular season finale at the Edwardsville YMCA.
