Redhawks Sweep Belmont; Lock Down OVC Tournament Spot

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.–Southeast Missouri (33-18, 15-7) completed its regular season with a 3-2, 4-1, sweep of Belmont (22-22, 3-13) Sunday at the Southeast Softball Complex.
 
SEMO finished with 33 wins, its most in a season in 20 years. The Redhawks are also in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and will await seeding as the eight-team event is scheduled to begin on May 9 in Oxford, Alabama.
 
SEMO sent its five seniors out with its eighth doubleheader sweep this year. The Redhawks also ended the regular season on a six-game winning streak after sweeping their final three opponents.
 
Parker Bandy scored the decisive run in game one on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the third inning.
 
SEMO held a 2-1 lead until BU tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Jess Andree in the top of the third.
 
Madeline Krumrey (13-7) tossed her 12thcomplete game with five strikeouts. Krumrey allowed two runs on three hits and walked three, as well. She tied her career-high for most wins in a season.
 
Brooklin Lee (12-11) suffered the loss. Lee worked six innings and struck out eight. She scattered three hits and allowed three runs.
 
Both teams had just three hits.
 
SEMO held a 4-0 lead through six innings before BU avoided the shutout in the nightcap.
 
The Redhawks took an early lead in the bottom of the second when Claire Wernig drew a bases loaded walk.
 
With the bases loaded again in the third, Sarah Messex delivered a two-RBI single to score both Rachel Anderson and Mykaela Arellanes pushing SEMO's lead to 3-0.
 
Anderson's infield single scored the Redhawks last run in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Messex went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Wernig also added two hits as SEMO outhit the Bruins, 7-5.
 
Haley Thogmartin (12-6) nailed down the win. Thogmartin went the distance allowing just one run (unearned) on five hits. She had a career-high nine strikeouts, as well.
 
Lexi Rouse (6-3) took the loss. Rouse struck out one, walked five, gave up three runs and allowed three hits in two innings.
 
SEMO, the only OVC team to get all 22 of its conference games in, will be off until the league's postseason tournament.
