Redhawks Come Up Short in 7-6 Loss to #20 Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri (20-22, 14-8) came up short in a close 7-6 loss to #20 Tennessee Tech (36-5, 18-1) Friday night at Bush Stadium.

Trevor Ezell went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Ezell's single gave the Redhawks the lead in the top of the third inning and his one-out RBI-double pulled SEMO within a run in the top of the ninth.

Offensively, SEMO outhit TTU, 12-11, in the series opener.

The Golden Eagles were led by Kevin Strohschein who went 3-for-4 on the day with a RBI in the seventh inning to help secure the win. A total of five different Golden Eagles knocked in a run for the game. Collin Harris followed at 2-for-2 with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning which regained the lead for the Golden Eagles.
 
SEMO answered with a big sixth inning of its own. Ezell, Tristen Gagan and Justin Dirden combined for three hits and three runs without an out. Dirden's two-run home run pushed SEMO ahead of TTU. 
 
Alex Nielsen also went 2-for-3 with two singles and a walk for the Redhawks. Chase Urhahn finshed with three singles, two of which were leadoff hits.
 
Logan Spalt started on the mound and struck out two while allowing four runs on five hits in 4.1 innings of a no-decision. Logan Winder (1-1) was credited with the loss, his first of the season.
 
Travis Moths picked up the win and Ethan Roberts claimed the save. Moths improved to 9-1 after striking out five and giving up five runs on eight hits in six innings. 
 
TTU ran its winning streak to 27 games, the longest in the nation.

The Redhawks and Golden Eagles resume their series at 2 p.m., CT, Saturday.
