CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's volleyball coach
Julie Yankus announced Friday the signings of freshmen
Kendall Washington and
Caroline Draver for the 2018 season.
Â
With the addition of Washington and Draver, Southeast has inked five newcomers for the 2018 campaign after signing
Elissa Moylan,
Colby Greene and
Claire Ochs during the early signing period in November.
Â
Washington, a Tyrone, Georgia native, was a four-year letter winner at Sandy Creek High School and Oak Mountain Academy. The daughter of Kenneth and Tracy Washington, she amassed over 1,000 kills in her career as a starting six rotation outside hitter. Kendall helped lead Oak Mountain Academy to Area, Region and State Championships in 2015. She was also the lone freshman on her high school varsity team.
Â
"Kendall is playing on a very competitive club team right now which is definitely preparing her for the next level," Yankus said of Washington. "Kendall has a high contact point and I expect her to be an attacker who will score a lot of points for us. She will be a huge threat at the net."
Â
Washington has also been named to all-area, all-region and all-state teams as well as earned most valuable player, student-athlete of the week, offensive player of the year and team captain.
Â
She plays club volleyball at A5 Volleyball Club and is coached by Jing Hou. In the classroom, she was named to the honor roll and she plans to major in either physical therapy or criminal justice at Southeast.
Â
Draver, a Shorewood, Wisconsin native, racked up 419 kills, 136 total blocks and 93 digs in 259 career sets as a right side hitter at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a senior, she was named Greater Metro Conference All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Â
"Caroline brings in a lot of experience as a pin hitter competing at a high level both in high school and in club," Yankus said of Draver. "She has a lot of finesse as an attacker and understands the game very well. She is a smart player who can contribute as a pin hitter on either side of the court."
Â
The daughter of Mike and Kristi Draver, Caroline helped lead Divine Savior Holy Angels to quarterfinals (2016) and semifinals (2017) finishes in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State tournament. The team also earned the AVCA Team Academic Award during the 2016-2017 season.
Â
Caroline currently plays club volleyball with the Milwaukee Sting - 18 Silver and is coached by Taryn Vaughn and Ted Schulte. She plans to major in business at Southeast.
Â
Southeast continues its spring slate tomorrow at Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana. The Redhawks face Vincennes at 11 a.m., CT and then take on Southern Indiana at noon. SEMO will also play two more matches at 1:30 p.m. and then 2:30 p.m.
