CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (4-9, 1-3) captured the doubles point and two singles matches but fell to Austin Peay (7-6, 3-1 OVC), 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
 
Southeast won two doubles matches to earn the doubles point for the first time since Jan. 27's dual meet against Northern Illinois (4-3 win). After losing the third doubles match, the Redhawks took two straight matches at the top two slots.
 
Kseniya Zonova and Oleksandra Doroshenko improved to 3-0 in 2018 when they fought past Lidia Yanes Garcia and Fabienne Schmidt, 7-5, at no. 1 doubles.
 
Alessandra Maya Thompson and Maja Lundell then registered their first victory as doubles partners at the second doubles spot. Maya Thompson and Lundell outlasted Brittney Covington and Helena Kuppig, 7-6, after a 7-5 tiebreaker.
 
When the competition switched to singles, the Governors captured wins at the top three singles positions to take a 3-1 lead at the meet.
 
At no. 5 singles, Kelly Sicha recorded Southeast's first singles victory to cut Austin Peay's edge to 3-2. Sicha notched her first conference win when she beat Claudia Yanes Garcia, 6-4, 6-3.
 
The Governors then captured the dual meet when Brittney Covington defeated Maja Lundell, 6-3, 7-6.
 
At fourth singles, Anais Emelie then ousted Ana Albertson in three sets. Albertson took the first set 6-4 before Emelie bounced back to take the next two sets, 7-5, 10-4.
 
Southeast next faces Murray State tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the McCracken County High School indoor courts in Paducah, Kentucky.
