Southeast Falls in Overtime to Morehead State

Morehead, Ky. – Southeast Missouri women's basketball fell to the Morehead State Eagles 60-58 in overtime on Thursday evening.
 
The game started slow on offense for both teams, each team missing its first three field goal attempts and committing multiple turnovers.
 
Adrianna Murphy finally got SEMO on the board around the six minute mark after splitting a pair of free throws. Ashton Luttrull immediately followed that with back-to-back three-pointers to take the lead 7-3.
 
The Redhawks continued the run a couple minutes later with another three from Luttrull and a couple buckets inside.
 
After going several minutes without scoring, the Eagles responded with a 7-0 run late in the quarter to close the gap.
 
SEMO led 16-11 at the end of one.
 
The second quarter started similar to the first for both teams, with the offense not coming easy. Both teams scored a combined eight points the first half of the period.
 
The offensive struggles remained for both teams the rest of the quarter. Southeast and Morehead each had spans going over three minutes without a field goal. The Redhawks shot 21 percent in the quarter while Morehead shot 33 percent and had four turnovers.
 
Southeast led 22-21 at halftime.
 
The Redhawks struck first in the second half with Luttrull's fourth three-pointer of game. Southeast then followed that with a scoring drought over three minutes allowing Morehead to take the lead.
 
SEMO struggled from the field throughout the remainder of the third while Morehead began to find a rhythm on the offensive end.
 
Morehead led Southeast 42-33 entering the fourth quarter.
 
The Redhawks and Eagles began the fourth quarter trading buckets, with Morehead hanging on to a lead around 10 points.
 
Beginning at the eight minute mark, Southeast went on a 13-0 over a span of six minutes to take the lead 48-47 with 2:38 remaining.
 
Morehead broke the scoring drought with a layup to take the lead at the 1:25 mark. Tesia Thompson then reclaimed the lead with a pair of free throws.
 
Miranda Crockett was fouled with 25 seconds left and split the pair, giving Southeast the ball with the game tied at 50-50.
 
Ashton Luttrull was called for an offensive foul with 20 seconds left, giving the ball back to the Eagles.
 
Darianne Seward was off at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.
 
Southeast struck first in OT with a pair of free throws from Ashton Luttrull. Adrianna Murphy then scored a fast break lay in to stretch the lead to four.
 
The Redhawks led by three with under a minute to play when Erin Blaine scored a lay up plus the foul to tie the game 57-57 with 46 seconds remaining.
 
Deja Jones was fouled with 43 seconds remaining and split the pair, giving Southeast the lead at 58-57.
 
Morehead took the lead after a runner from Darianne Seward at 59-58. Adrianna Murphy was off on a jumper the next trip down, forcing Southeast to foul.
 
Darianne Seward knocked down the first free throw, but Morehead committed a violation on the second attempt, giving the ball back to SEMO down two with four seconds remaining.
 
Southeast was unable to get a shot off, eventually falling by two.
 
LaTrese Saine led the way for the Redhawks with 12 points and a career-high 17 rebounds and six blocks.
 
Ashton Luttrull poured in 20 for Southeast including four three-pointers.
 
SEMO now sits at 11-14, 6-7 in conference play.
 
The Redhawks will next battle the UT Martin Skyhawks this Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at Skyhawk Arena.
