CEDAR FALLS, Iowa –
Mykaela Arellanes and
Sarah Messex each went 3-for-4 and Southeast Missouri (2-2) pounded out 14 hits in a dominating 13-3 win over UMKC (0-2) Saturday at the Northern Iowa Dome Classic.
SEMO and UMKC kicked off day two of the tournament and the Redhawks weren't fazed at all by the early 8 a.m. start time.
The Redhawks quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead in a big first inning.
Arellanes led off with a single and went to second on a base hit by
Parker Bandy.
Rachel Anderson followed with a two-RBI triple to left center.
Abby Tillotson reached on a throwing error after that and Anderson touched home. Run-scoring singles by Messex and
Riley Hayes polished off the early outburst as all nine hitters came to the plate.
SEMO followed that up by scoring in four more innings.
Ashley Ellis drove in both Tillotson and
Addison Barnouski in the top of the second. Tillotson added a two-RBI double and Anderson scored on a wild pitch in the third.
Randi Dae Conway touched home on a two-out triple by Arellanes in the fourth. And, Messex knocked in a run on a double after Anderson scored in the fifth.
Eight of SEMO's starters had a hit. The Redhawks overpowered the Kangaroos with five extra base hits, including three doubles and two triples. Anderson joined SEMO's top-10 career leaders after collecting the ninth triple of her career.
Arellanes and Messex led four Redhawks with multiple-hits. Barnouski and Hayes followed with two apiece. Anderson scored three runs and chipped in two RBI as well.
Alexis Estes (1-0) nailed down her first win of the season giving up two hits and striking out two in three innings.
Lynsey Connor (0-1) took the loss. Connor was chased after one inning which saw her scatter two hits, allow three runs and walk one. Reliver Olivia Fluehr was roughed up for seven runs on nine hits in two innings.
SEMO dropped its other game of the day to host Northern Iowa, 8-0. It was the second time the Redhawks were shutout by the Panthers in the tournament.
The Redhawks conclude play at the Northern Iowa Dome Classic against Drake Sunday. First pitch is set for 11:45 a.m., CT.
