Denzel Mahoney scored a game-high 27 points and tied the game on a 3-pointer with one second left leading Southeast Missouri (12-15, 6-8) to an 81-77 overtime win over UT Martin (9-18, 4-10) Saturday.
SEMO trailed by 15 points (64-49) with a little over nine minutes left before erasing the deficit to claim its second-straight win.
The Redhawks scored 15 of the final 25 points in regulation and pulled to within one twice in the final 25 seconds on a layup by
Jonathan Dalton each time.
After Charleston, Missouri native Delfincko Bogan made two free throws to give UTM a 74-71 cushion with seven ticks left, Mahoney buried a huge 3-pointer six seconds later to send the game to overtime.
SEMO, which never led in regulation, then won the overtime period by a score of 7-3 with
Daniel Simmons netting five of those points to help the Redhawks pull off their largest comeback win of the season.
The Skyhawks heated up to shoot 59.3 percent (31-of-59) from the field en route to a 39-29 halftime lead.
Mahoney led all scorers with 27 points on 8-of-14 field goals, 5-of-8 three-pointers and 6-of-7 free throws. He is 22 points away from joining the school's top 20 all-time career scoring leaders.
Ledarrius Brewer followed with a double-double 19 points and 10 boards, the first of his career. Simmons and
Justin Carpenter added 15 and 10 points, respectively, while Dalton matched a career-high 10 assists. Dalton is now 14 assists away from 200 in his career.
SEMO ended up shooting over 50 percent for the third game in a row. The Redhawks hit 30-of-55 field goals. Additionally, SEMO won for the third time after trailing at halftime this season.
The Redhawks go for their third-straight win when they return home to host Eastern Illinois on Feb. 15. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m., CT, at the Show Me Center.
