Redhawks Wrap Up 2018 Tennis Schedule at Missouri State Fall Invitational Friday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis concludes its 2018 schedule at the Missouri State Fall Invitational this weekend in Springfield, Missouri.
Southeast will compete against Central Arkansas, Louisiana Monroe, Tennessee State of the Ohio Valley Conference, Western Illinois, Missouri and Southwest Baptist.
Friday opens the tournament at 9 a.m. with two rounds of doubles followed by a round of singles.
SEMO enters its final fall invitational after having success in its three prior tournaments.
Romana Tarajova led the Redhawks in singles at the 2018 ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Central Regional with a Round of 32s finish in Iowa City, Iowa, at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex Oct. 12-16. She was awarded a first round bye in the singles main draw as she was seeded in the top 32 and advanced with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Missouri's Taylor Gruber.
Kseniya Zonova advanced through singles qualifying at the ITA Central Regional while Isabella Krupa and Teona Velkoska teamed up in doubles to make it through qualifying.
Sneha Sinha finished as the Flight B Singles runner-up at the Austin Peay Fall Invitational on Sept. 15 in Clarksville, Tennessee. Manuela Barriga and Tarajova also claimed the Flight B Doubles championship at the Central Arkansas (UCA) Fall Invitational Sept. 22 in Conway, Arkansas.
Tarajova (Flight B) and Teona Velkoska (Flight D) also both advanced to their respective singles championship finals at the UCA Fall Invitational.
The 2018-19 Redhawk tennis team is made up of 10 players and features five returners with seniors Isabella Krupa and Anais Emelie along with junior Kseniya Zonova and sophomores Maja Lundell and Kelly Sicha all back for the 2018-19 campaign.
Zonova led the team in 2017-18 with a 20-10 singles record (10-6 duals, 6-3 OVC) as she earned Second-Team All-OVC honors.
The team also has five freshmen in Barriga, Sinha, Tarajova, Velkoska and Cape Girardeau, Missouri native, Grace Powderly.
Sinha leads the team this fall with a 7-3 singles record while Tarajova (5-2) and Zonova (5-4) each have five wins. Barriga and Tarajova pace the Redhawks in doubles competition with a 4-2 mark in 2018.
Zonova and Sinha will compete in the Flight A Doubles Draw at the Missouri State Fall Invitational while Krupa and Velkoska will team up in the Flight B Doubles bracket.
Emelie and Lundell, Tarajova and Barriga along with Powderly are slated for the Flight C Doubles Draw. Powderly will compete with Megan Tagaloa of Western Illinois in the doubles tournament.
In singles, Zonova and Tarajova will both compete in the Flight A Draw. Velkoska and Krupa are in the Flight B Bracket while Barriga and Sinha are in Flight C.
Powderly, Lundell and Emelie round out the singles tournament in Flight D.
Saturday and Sunday of the Missouri State Fall Invitational will both start at 10 a.m. Saturday features two rounds of doubles and a singles round while Sunday is a lone round of singles.
Southeast starts its 2019 spring season on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. in Columbia, Missouri, against Missouri.
