Gonzales Scores in Overtime to Give Redhawks 1-0 Win Over Eastern Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Esmie Gonzales kicked the game-winning goal in overtime to send Southeast Missouri (4-7-2, 2-3-2) to a 1-0 victory over Eastern Illinois (4-7-4, 3-3-2) Thursday afternoon.

Gonzales scored her team-high sixth goal of the season off a flick from Jordan Nelson on a free kick. The game-winning goal, which came four minutes into the extra period, was one of two shots for Gonzales on the day.

SEMO recorded its first road victory of the season despite being outshot, 13-6, by the Panthers. Morgan McCourt also added two shots, while Jennifer Brien and Cassidi Tomsu had one apiece for the Redhawks.

Bailey Redden completed her third-consecutive shutout with another strong performance in goal. Redden had five saves and now has 47 in six starts this year.

Meanwhile, Gonzales moved into a tie for fifth in career shots on goal (77) and now shares the third-place spot in career game-winning goals (9) at SEMO.

The Redhawks remain on the road to face SIU Edwardsville Sunday.
