Series History
Southeast trails in the all-time series to Louisville, 1-2. Southeast won the first meeting back in 2003, 3-1, in Louisville. SEMO was shut out 4-0 in Lexington in 2012. Two years ago, Southeast returned to Louisville and fell 2-0. This will be the Cardinals' first trip to Cape Girardeau.
Scouting the Cardinals
Louisville comes to Cape with a 4-1 record on the season. The Cardinals own wins over Boston University, Miami (Ohio), Indiana, and most recently, Kentucky. Emina Ekic leads the Cardinals with four goals this season while Alison Price has two. The two are responsible for 60 percent of the Louisville's goal scoring.
Let's Recap
Southeast took to the road Friday to take on in-state foe Missouri State. The Redhawks and Bears played a slow first-half draw with only six combined shots in the first 45 minutes. Missouri State broke the scoreless tie four minutes into the second half then added on in the 65th minute. Southeast suffered it's second loss of the season by way of shutout.
Looking Ahead
Southeast will set its sights on OVC play following Monday's Labor Day match. Tennessee Tech comes to Cape on Friday, Sept. 15 to begin the conference slate. That night will be Cape Trails Greek Night at Houck. The Redhawks will then open a five-game road stretch beginning that Sunday, Sept. 17, at UT Martin.
OVC Defensive Player of the Week
Junior defender
Maddi Karstens was named this week's adidas® OVC Defensive Player of the Week. Karstens played the full 180 minutes on defense last week for Southeast. The Redhawks' back line allowed only one goal to Milwaukee then turned around and shut out Green Bay. Karstens assisted on the game-winning goal of Sunday's game when she dropped a free kick into the box from 50 yards out for
Esmie Gonzales to net the first goal of the game. This is the first weekly conference honor for the St. Charles, Missouri native in her career.
Approaching 100 Home Wins
In its 19th season, Southeast Missouri has won a total of 99 matches at the friendly confines of Houck Field. In all, the Redhawks are 99-40-21 at home.
