MURRAY, Ky. – Southeast Missouri women's soccer (4-6-2, 1-2-2) fell to Murray State (8-1-1, 3-0-1) Thursday afternoon, 1-0.

The Racers scored the game's lone goal in the 18
th minute and held the Redhawks scoreless the remainder of the match despite some solid chances by the SEMO offense.

Southeast was outshot in the match, 17-8, but only trailed by a single shot in the first half. The SEMO defense allowed 11 second-half shots but the Racers were only able to put on of those shots on goal as they were shutout in the final 45 minutes.

Esmie Gonzales and
Shelby Beussink each had three shots to account for 75 percent of the Redhawks' shot output.
Jermima Job and
Katie Pohl each landed a shot on goal.

Kindra Lierz (2-6-2) suffered the loss in goal after allowing the game-winner. Lierz made four stops along the way Thursday.

Alex Steigerwald (8-1-1) recorded the solo shutout, making three saves.

Racer forward Harriet Withers scored her conference-leading 10
th goal of the season in the 18
th minute to put Murray ahead 1-0. The goal broke Murray State's all-time goals scored record, her 35
th career goal.

Held to no shots much of the first half, the Redhawk offense found its best chance to net a goal in the 39
th minute. Gonzales' first shot was blocked, resulting in a corner kick. Gonzales picked up another blocked shot and dropped her corner kick into a horde of Redhawks in front of the net. Beussink tried a header which was blocked by a Racer defender and kicked out to Job who placed a shot on goal but saved by Steigerwald.

The half ended with SEMO trailing 1-0. A last-minute shot by Gonzales brought SEMO's shot deficit to 6-5 at the end of the opening stanza.

Pohl's shot was a header on goal in the 64
th minute but saved by Steigerwald. Beussink took back-to-back shots in the 78
th and 79
th minutes but were just off the mark.

The Redhawks will return to action next Friday, Oct. 6 to close out their road stretch. Southeast then returns to Cape for the final four games of the regular season beginning Oct. 8 against Belmont.
