CONWAY, Ark. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis opened their fall slate with a strong showing at the two-day Central Arkansas Fall Invitational.

Five Redhawks tennis players competed on Friday and Saturday in both singles and doubles.

"This tournament was a great fitness test and learning opportunity for us," head coach
Mary Beth Gunn said of the first fall tournament. "Everyone got quality wins this weekend and I am very proud of the toughness we showed on court."

Oleksandra Doroshenko led SEMO with a second place finish in the Flight 1 Singles Main Draw. Doroshenko earned a first round bye before wins over Alye Darter of Missouri State (6-4, 6-4) and Northeastern State's (Oklahoma) Molly Warden (6-2, 6-0). Doroshenko then faced Tatjana Stoll (NSU) in the finals on Saturday and lost 4-6, 4-2.

"Doroshenko played some fantastic tennis this weekend to get to the finals," Gunn said. "She dominated the first three rounds and just came up short in the finals, but she put everything she had into that match."

Isabella Krupa also competed in the Flight 1 Singles Draw. Krupa beat Pornpawee Pramethong of Central Arkansas on Friday, 6-3, 6-3, to advance to the quarterfinals later that day. Krupa then met eventual champion, Stoll, who beat her 6-1, 6-3.

Krupa also lost her two consolation matches to MSU's Anelisse Torrico (1-6, 3-6) and Qili Ma of UCA (6-7 (4), 4-6).

Kseniya Zonova and Anais Emelie competed in the Flight 2 Singles Main Draw. Emelie made it to the semifinals and Zonova had a quarterfinals finish. Emelie outlasted Alexia Meyer of MSU 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 to advance to the semifinals on Saturday morning where Emelie fell to Amiru Shimoguchi of Central Arkansas (6-3, 6-2).

Zonova cruised through her opening round match with Sabina Jeresic of Arkansas State, 6-0, 6-1. In Zonova's second round match, she took the second set, 2-6, to force a third set 10-point tie-breaker with Mayra Jovic (NSU). Jovic won the first set, 6-1, and outlasted Zonova in the tie-breaker, 12-10. Zonova then beat Missouri State's Phoebe Boeschen in her consolation match, 6-2, 6-3.

Freshman Maja Lundell represented SEMO in the Flight 3 Singles Main Draw. Lundell won her first match, Friday afternoon, 6-4, 6-2, over Arkansas State's Allison Quammen. Lundell then lost to Hee-Jin Oh (Central Arkansas), 1-6, 6-7 (8).

Lundell finished her singles tournament at UCA with a tight consolation match with CJ Boydston (NSU). Lundell won the opening set, 6-1, before Boydston took the second set, 6-2, to force a third set. Lundell closed out the match with a 10-5 final set to win the match.

Doroshenko and Krupa teamed up for doubles and Zonova joined forces with Emelie in the Flight 1 Doubles Main Draw. Doroshenko and Krupa finished as semifinalists after they eased by NSU's Easton Parker/Jovic, 6-0, and ASU's Shelby King/Jeresic (ASU), 6-1.

Doroshenko and Krupa met tournament hosts, Pramethong and Marli Van Heerden, of UCA in the semifinals but dropped the six-game set, 6-4.

Zonova and Emelie lost to Darter and Ellie Burger in their first round doubles match, 6-2.

In the doubles consolation bracket, Zonova and Emelie beat Karla Tomiac/Alzbetka Gomborova (6-4) and Lundell teamed up with Taylor Gray of MSU to beat ASU's Kirsty Venter/Shannon O'Brien, 6-1.

Southeast Missouri hosts the Redhawk Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 7 where they will face Murray State at 9 a.m. followed by Maryville at 3 p.m.
