Redhawks Split with UT Martin in Season Finale

MARTIN, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri (23-27, 8-14) ended its season when it split a doubleheader with UT Martin (36-16, 13-5) Saturday. The Redhawks took game one, 7-0, before dropping the nightcap, 8-2.

SEMO came up short of earning a spot in next week's Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, as Jacksonville State, UT Martin, SIU Edwardsville, Eastern Illinois, Murray State, Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee Tech and Belmont are the teams heading to the event.

Madeline Krumrey threw a complete game shutout and Darby Pruett hit a grand slam to key the Redhawks victory in game one.

SEMO took an early lead when it scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second.

Mykaela Arellanes led off the game with a double to center field. With one out, Rachel Anderson walked and stole second. Parker Bandy followed with a single to score both Arellanes and Anderson. Bandy later touched home on a base hit by Ashley Ellis giving the Redhawks a quick 3-0 advantage.

Arellanes, Brooke Rheinecker and Anderson each singled to load the bases in the top of the second. After Arellanes was thrown out at home, Bandy walked. Pruett then stepped in and belted her fifth home run of the season over the wall in left.

Krumrey (14-8) finished with 14 victories, the most in a season in her career. She retired the last nine hitters she faced and tossed her team-high fourth shutout this year. It was also her 11th complete game, as Krumrey struck out three and walked one.

Samantha Scott (4-5) suffered the loss.

SEMO outhit the Skyhawks, 11-6. The first five hitters in the Redhawks lineup combined for nine of the hits. Arellanes went 3-for-4 with a run scored, Rheinecker went 1-for-2 with a run, Anderson and Bandy each went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Pruett finished at 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs. SEMO won in Martin for the first time since 2009.

UT Martin used three home runs to beat the Redhawks in game two.

Jodie Duncan hit a three-run home run with two outs to get the Skyhawks a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Then, in the fifth, Carly Gonzales hit a three-run home run and Gracyn McBride delivered a two-run smash to push UTM's lead to 8-2.

SEMO scored its only runs on a two-RBI single by Pruett in the first inning.

Brooke Kennedy (20-5) picked up the win. Kennedy struck out 10 and allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings.

Alexis Estes (6-10) was credited with the loss. Estes struck out three, walked two and gave up seven runs on six hits in 4.1 frames.

Anderson, who ended the season on an 11-game hitting streak, led the Redhawks with two hits.

SEMO won six of its final nine games to bring a strong close to its 2017 campaign.
