CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
Madeline Krumrey pitched a complete game gem to lead Southeast Missouri (19-25, 4-12) to a doubleheader split with Eastern Kentucky (20-25, 7-7) Sunday afternoon. The Redhawks won game one, 2-1, and dropped the nightcap, 2-0.
Â
Krumrey threw six scoreless frames and allowed only one run in the first inning. She faced a one-out bases loaded jam in the top of the fourth inning and recorded back-to-back outs to silence the threat. An inning later, EKU had runners at second and third with one out in the fifth and Krumrey forced Hannah Clark to foul out and caught Brittany Oldaker looking on strikes.
Â
A native of Wildwood, Missouri, Krumrey then retired the final six hitters she faced.
Â
Krumrey fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning when Krislyn Campos led off with a triple to left center and scored on a one-out single by Rachel Minogue.
Â
SEMO's offense rallied late in the bottom of the third inning when
Rachel Anderson and
Parker Bandy belted back-to-back two-out RBI-doubles to get the Redhawks a 2-1 edge. Anderson scored the go-ahead run as both tallies were unearned.
Â
Krumrey improved to 11-8 this season and threw her team-high eighth complete game. She also struck out three.
Â
Alex Sallberg (7-12) suffered the loss. Sallberg allowed five hits, two runs and struck out one in 2.2 innings. Mollie Paulick pitched 3.1 innings in relief.
Â
Bandy went 2-for-3 to lead the Redhawks who had six hits. Bandy registered her seventh multiple-hit game of the season.
Â
In game two, Mollie Paulick allowed just three hits and struck out three in a complete game shutout.
Â
EKU scored once in the third and fifth innings and that was all Paulick would need.
Â
SEMO left six runners on base and had runners on first and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Paulick, however, got pinch-hitters
Claire Wernig and
Abby Tillotson to fly out.
Â
Alexis Estes (5-9) had a strong pitching performance, as well, matching a season-high eight strikeouts in seven innings. It was Estes' third complete game of the season.
Â
Mykaela Arellanes, Anderson and
Ashley Ellis each had a hit for the Redhawks in game two.
Â
SEMO hosts Saint Louis in its final home games of the season on Apr. 26.
