Redhawks Sweep Tigers, 5-3, 4-1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri (21-25, 6-12) swept Tennessee State (12-34, 2-16), 5-3, 4-1, in a doubleheader Saturday.

SEMO left a total of 26 runners on base in the doubleheader, but scored enough to get by the Tigers.

After stranding 12 baserunners, SEMO broke through with two runs in the top of the ninth inning en route to a come-from-behind win in game one.

Freshman Rachel Anderson tripled and scored the go-ahead run and Darby Pruett had a RBI-hit to break a 3-3 deadlock. Anderson ripped her team and Ohio Valley Conference high eighth triple to left center on a full count and quickly scored on a sacrifice fly by Parker Bandy.

TSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. A hit batsman and back-to-back singles loaded the bases for the Tigers before Patton Akers drew a one-out walk to plate the first run of the game. Erica O'Kane followed with a two-RBI single to cap the early surge.

After that, starter Madeline Krumrey blanked the Tigers the rest of the way.

Ashley Ellis launched a one-out home run to center field to get the Redhawks on the board in the top of the fourth. Four Ellis, it was her fourth round-tripper of the season.

SEMO tied the game when it tacked on two more runs in the fifth.

Brooke Rheinecker led off with a walk and stole second. Mykaela Arellanes then walked. Moments after both runners moved up a base on a double steal, Madison Harris ripped a single up the middle to score both Rheinecker and Arellanes bringing the game to a 3-3 deadlock.

Krumrey (12-8) tossed her ninth complete game of the season. She matched a season-high eight strikeouts and allowed three runs on six hits. Krumrey also recorded 15 fly ball outs.

Lauren Powell (5-15) suffered the loss. Powell, too, went the distance. She gave up five runs, nine hits, walked seven and struck out six.

Rheinecker and Ellis led SEMO with two hits each. Both of Ellis' hits went for extra bases.

Danica Gleason went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Tigers.

Defensively, TSU committed three errors.

The Redhawks scored three runs in the third inning to key their victory in the nightcap.

Arellanes tripled to right field to score Sarah Messex and Anderson hit a two-run home run to grab SEMO a 3-0 lead. Anderson now has a team-high six home runs this season.

Rheinecker scored the Redhawks other run when she touched home on a wild pitch with two outs in the fifth inning.

TSU had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but reliever Mackenzie Hoelting ended the threat to nail down her second save of the year.

Alexis Estes (6-9) picked up the win. Estes struck out four and gave up one run on seven hits in 6.1 innings.

Lauren Woodard (4-12) took the loss. Woodard went the distance, scattering seven hits and giving up four runs. She also struck out one and walked none.

Rheinecker went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead SEMO.

SEMO's 21 wins are the most in a season under head coach Mark Redburn. The Redhawks also completed their first doubleheader sweep in conference play this season.

TSU, the league's last place team, dropped 19 of its last 23 contests.

SEMO remains on the road to face Belmont in a doubleheader Sunday.
