Track & Field Ends Opening Day Events In Atlanta

ATLANTA - Southeast Missouri's track and field team's wrapped up opening day of the Georgia Tech Invitation on Friday evening.
Stephen Zagurski kicked off the meet by taking second in the hammer throw at 185' 11" (56.67m). Logan Blomquist took seventh in the event with a throw of 164' 7" (50.16m). Both returned for shot put with Blomquist taking eighth at 53' 1.5" (16.19m) while Zagurski's top throw measured 49' 3" (15.01m).
In women's competition, Kayla Gutierrez's best hammer toss measured 173' 4" (52.83m). She would follow with a seventh-place performance in shot put with a top throw of 44' 2.75" (13.48m). McKenna Baker had a best mark of 40' 10.5" (12.46m) in the event.
Angie Sumner had a career-best time of 11:13.90 in the 3000m steeplechase to claim third-place. Sumner's time currently ranks fourth in SEMO history. Anna Thomas also ran in the event with a time of 11:55.76. Griffin Bailey clocked a time of 9:37.03 on the men's end of the race.
Richard Vinson (181' 11"; 55.44m) and Andrew Ryan (172' 10") placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in men's javelin.
Leslie Brooks was the lone Redhawk hurdle runner of the day, finishing the 100m hurdles at 17.07. She returned to compete in long jump as well, leaping 16' .25" (4.88m).
Zach Gordon set a new personal record in the 100m dash with a time of 10.76. In the same event, Andre Bluiett matched his season-best time of 10.90. Gordon also participated in the long jump, with his best jump measuring 22' 5" (6.83m).
In the 1500m run, Natalie Kopplin finished the race at 4:52.81 while Dan Plunkett on the men's end finished at 4:05.61.
Kaitlyn Shea took second in the 5000m run with a tie of 17:18.70. Also in the event, Sydney O'Brien finished in seventh at 17.43.42. Other runners include Danielle Mohrmann (18.48.34) and Rachel Hutchcraft (18.48.34).
