Midweek Doubleheader Rescheduled
Southeast's midweek doubleheader at Missouri, initially scheduled to be played on Apr. 5, was rescheduled for this week. The Redhawks dropped their last 15 meetings with the Tigers after last beating Mizzou, 5-0, in 2000.
Season Winding Down
Including Tuesday, the Redhawks have 14 games left this regular-season. After its matchup with Missouri, Southeast returns to Cape Girardeau for a six-game homestand with doubleheaders against Morehead State (Apr. 22), Eastern Kentucky (Apr. 23) and Saint Louis (Apr. 26) in that stretch. The Redhawks then head to Tennessee State (Apr. 29), Belmont (Apr. 30) and UT Martin (May 6).
Last Time Out
Southeast dropped a pair of games on the road at SIU Edwardsville (Apr. 14) prior to the Easter holiday. The Redhawks lost game one by a score of 4-0 and fell, 5-4, in 10 innings during the nightcap. Southeast held a 4-3 lead when SIUE hit a solo home run to send game two to extra innings.
Rachel Anderson and
Mykaela Arellanes each had two hits, while freshman
Addison Barnouski hit her third home run of the season in that contest.
Extra, Extra
Of Southeast's 295 hits this season, 89 have gone for extra bases. The Redhawks have 48 doubles, an Ohio Valley Conference leading 17 triples and 24 home runs. Eleven different players have an extra base hit this year. Freshman outfielder
Rachel Anderson leads the team with nine doubles, seven triples and four home runs.
Close Games
The Redhawks have been involved in nine one-run games this year and are 3-6 in those contests. Seventeen of Southeast's games have been decided by no more than two runs. The Redhawks also played two extra inning contests this year, including a season-long 10-inning affair at SIU Edwardsville (Apr. 14).
Rookie Sensation
Freshman center fielder
Rachel Anderson is having a stellar rookie season for the Redhawks. She currently ranks third in the Ohio Valley Conference in batting average (.420) and leads the league in triples (7). Anderson is also second among conference leaders in slugging percentage (.714), fifth in on-base percentage (.477), fourth in hits (50) and second in total bases (85). She tops the Redhawks with 19 multiple-hit games and eight multi-RBI contests.
Over .400
Rachel Anderson has hit over .400 as Southeast's top hitter all season. Anderson currently has the highest batting averaged among freshmen in the Ohio Valley Conference with a .420 clip. Murray State's Brenna Finck (.410) follows. The Redhawks last player to hit over .400 in a season was
Savannah Carpenter (.424) in 2014.
Newcomer Package
All five of the Redhawks players hitting over .300 this season are newcomers. Freshman
Rachel Anderson (.420) paves the way, while freshman
Madison Harris (.339), transfer
Mykaela Arellanes (.333) and freshmen
Brooke Rheinecker (.333) and
Addison Barnouski (.324) round out that group. Anderson, Harris, Arellanes, Rheinecker and Barnouski have combined for 11 of Southeast's 24 home runs, as well.
Life on the Road
Southeast plays its 31st and 32nd games outside of Cape Girardeau when it visits Missouri Tuesday. The Redhawks are 5-8 in true road games and 10-8 in games played at neutral sites this year.
100 Career Games
Four players have seen action in over 100 games during their Southeast careers.
Nicole Deering (153),
Claire Wernig (119),
Darby Pruett (107) and
Riley Hayes (103) form that group. Wernig leads the team with 94 career starts.
Start Me Up
Sophomore shortstop
Sarah Messex started every game of her Southeast career to date. Messex enters Tuesday's twin bill with a streak of 87 consecutive starts. She has the longest games started streak of any Redhawk and is one of three players on this year's team to start every contest.
Rachel Anderson and
Mykaela Arellanes are the others. Messex also boasts a streak of 39-consecutive starts in Ohio Valley Conference play.
